Fantastic!  Maybe I'll get to finally view it in its entirety.  Even better is that I gave up cable (which didn't get it and had horrible service) but via antenna I DO get one of the stations!

The Yule Log on Antenna TV is one of those things that makes way too much sense!

In retrospect, I'm glad that I recorded the Yule Log a few years back...But it just doesn't have the same special "feel" as seeing and hearing the actual TV broadcast on Christmas morning. 

For some reason it reminds me of when they'd simulcast the show on the radio. As much as I always loved the actual Channel 11 TV broadcasts, the music always sounded "different" on the WPIX FM radio simulcasts every Christmas Eve...Regardless if it was on a high-end home stereo system, on a table radio or small transistor radio, or even over the car, that collection of music was always pure magic!

I'm hopeful that this situation between Tribune and Cablevision will be resolved by the start of the holiday season - but I'm not counting on it.

Being we lived in Vermont for the first 3 years of the broadcast, we only got to hear the beautiful music on the TV because Stereo TV's weren't available in 1966.  Then we moved to Wesstchester Counthy from 1970-1975 and I don't remember the year that we first listented to in Simulcast on WPIX FM and it was so great to turn the sound off on the TV and listen to it in True Stereo.  Then when we moved back to Vermont in 1975, we had to resort back to TV only on Cable TV for viewing the WPIX Yule Log.  I watched it every year until 1989 when it was shown for the last time, until 2001 and have watched it every year since, though I missed it one year altogether because WGN America changned their mine and did their own version of Old Time Radio Christmas Programs, and in 2010, when my DVR reset itself for no reason so I missed about 10 minutes of it while the DVR was rebooting.  Then in 2011 I had moved and they only had Cable TV here, but didn't carry WGN America, but that didn't matter because they didn't broadcast thw WPIX Yule Log but instead they broadcast in  on Antenna TV, and we didn't get Antenn TV until maybe the 2nd. week in January of this year, but now I have Dish Network so I can receive WPIX and also receive Antenna TV, so I have 2 chances to view it.  One I can DVR and the other I could Video Tape it because Antenna TV is a sub-channel of our local NBC affiliate and Cable and Satellite providers don't have to carry the sub-channels of your local Digital channels.

WPIX is on SPOTBEAM, so I can't get it in HD and Antena TV wil also be in the 4:3 ratio, but I can use my Ditigal to Analog Converter box and change the aspect ration to 16:9, but all that does is stretch the image to fit the screen on my HDTV, so I won't get in in true HD on either channel and I doubt that Antenna TV broadcast is in Stereo on our sub-channel.  But I do have a it on a DVD from my DVR from a previous year and even though I can watch my DVD's anytime I want, I also like to watch it each year.  I have the 2-hour version on DVD, from a BETA Tape I did around 1986, and the 3 hour DVD from a few years back, and then 4 hour from 2009 that I also DVR'd and then made a DVD.

I had a few other years on VHS of the 2-hour broadcast, but unfortunately at my last apartment, I never got the chance to set up my shelves for my video tapes and I had several of them in milk crates that were stacked on top of each other and had them in what I thought was a safe place in our basement, but one day the pipe for hot water for the kitchen sink started to leak and I didn't know about it for about 5 or 6 days and several of my tapes got ruined.  I was devastated as I lost some "One of a kind" TV programs.  Things like Christmas Eve from the New York Metropolitan Opera House that believe was in with the tapes in the basement, but I do have some tapes that are in those 2 drawer VHS Tape cases that hold about 20 or 30 tapes each and several, I didn't label, so there is a possibility that I might still have this particular broadcast and it was with Leontyne Price, so I would really love to watch it again.

Chip, any luck getting them to run the Yule Log on the WGN Nationwide cable channel during the late overnite/very early morning time period for those of us out of range of an Antenna TV station?  Closest ATV is in Michigan.  I'd be happy to take a 2am-5am showing if that's what it takes to get it!

Sorry Johnny, but that is the deal I struck with Sean Compton (President of Programming for Tribune) in 2010. In lieu of WGN America, Sean made Antenna TV the new home for the Yule Log's national coverage. He just can't afford the financial sacrifice to air the program (which is commercial-free as you know) on his WGN America cable station.

So...  Any word on 2013?

Yes, late this summer Tribune Broadcasting programming chief Sean Compton renewed the Yule Log for broadcast again for Christmas 2013; however, the time is still yet to be determined. I should know any day now; and as soon as I get the word, I will be making the official announcement.

Thanks Chip. Not too sure how I feel about the early morning broadcast hours (EST), but if anything is worth waking up for that early on Christmas morning, it's the Yule Log!
