The topic title says it all:  I've started my Christmas music listening season by playing that youtube video:

8 hours of vintage department store Christmas music

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2tx5NHDcHA

Last year (or was it the year before?  Time passed so strangely during the pandemic) I started making a list of the song titles and times in a text file.  So this year I'd like to start identifying the recording artists who performed on the various tracks.

For starters I'm wondering who performed the second tune in the video:  "Happy Holidays" which begins at 2:21.  What stands out to me is a saxophone solo @ 3:27.

Know it, have it, but just can't place it, Will.

This is the *pitfall* of having a collection as large as mine. I believe it's on an album that resides in the 2nd or 3rd Tier of my Top 500. If I can finally pinpoint it, I'll let you know.

Thanks, Chip!

Even if you can't immediately identify the artist, the fact that you recognize this recording at all as one in your collection is encouraging.   Because that could mean that it was likely once released on a commercial record label and so just may be included in a song recognition database like Shazam.

I have to confess that in my old age (I turned 80 this year) I've fallen well behind the digital music curve and still haven't even tried using Shazam or any of the other music recognition apps.  But this question may give me the nudge I need to move in that direction.

Thanks again for the speedy response and the encouragement.

Wow, this is a fun collection!  The description says this is from "Customusic" tapes, which sound like a production music library.  I can't seem to track down much information as it seems it's now defunct.  I doubt Shazam will help much (it didn't work for me), but I'll continue to dig around and see if another library music company purchased the rights to these.  Thanks for sharing this!!!

I found this playlist on YouTube that is related, but still no artist information: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?app=desktop&list=PL4tVaSBSrrnAkD1E0zY_NX2wDR5vbNCrC

I'll keep searching!

Sorry for all the posts!  My previously post lead me to this page on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seeburg_1000  Apparently Seeburg 1000 was a sort of jukebox to play background music and Customusic was a company that provided content for the player.  Curiously, there is a Seeburg 1000 website (http://seeburg1000.com/) that is selling a Christmas collection (at least digitally):  https://music.apple.com/us/album/twelve-songs-for-christmas/577142350.  There aren't any artists listed on their website or iTunes, so I'm not sure if this information is available.  If I can find any additional information, I'll post it (yet again!)

Aaron,

Please do not "same-day" double-post, or in this case, triple-post. Instead of filing consecutive unanswered same-day posts, I ask that you *please* just modify your existing first post to add, change or delete any information. Please see my post on the board about this policy by clicking the URL I posted below. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Hi Chip!
This is the *pitfall* of having a collection as large as mine.
Do you have any idea how large your LP & CD collection is?  I know you have various other formats (multiple tapes, 45's etc.)  But I was wondering if you ever had counted how many Christmas LPs & CDs you have (not counting multiple copies). Your Avatar shows quite few LPs

Thanks!

p.s. I couldn't figure out how to do a quote properly with this software

It's in the thousands; but no, I never kept a complete inventory of my Christmas record collection over the years. And unfortunately, it would be too monumental a task to approach now. Wish we had home computers back in those years.

My Top 500 represents the *best* of my entire collection. By the way, below the "Bubbling Under The Top 300" section of my Top 500, there are a couple of threads that list some "Notable Mentions From The Archives." I try to add to it from time to time.

Ahh....too vast to count!   I'm thinking of the last scene in Raiders Of the Lost Ark:

Looks like the place in Brazil where Zero Freitas has over 6 millions records.

A few years back he purchased the entire collection from Vinyl Rehab (Larry Woodlee) in Tennessee.  I used to buy a lot of my records from Larry.  He had them at a somewhat reasonable price and was very accurate in his grading of them.

This is the website where they talk about Zero Freitas collection

Worlds Largest Vinyl Record Collection

This is a YouTube video of Larry when he was trying to seel his collection.  At the time, he was selling the  for $150K.  I don't remember what he told me he ended up selling them for, but he did tell me that Zero Freitas purchased them.

When I was buying my albums from him, he had a lot that I was trying to replace, being I had several re-issues and this way I was able to get the original releases.  Especially ones that are on Columbia Record Label
