Can we include the caveat that, for the purpose of this poll, something like test-playing a brand new CD purchased during the off-season doesn't count?  Or the occasional playing of a track off-season to check on some detail of the recording, the performance, etc. probably shouldn't count either; right?

What I'm curious to find out is when most of us here at the Yule Log have our Christmas music in heavy rotation on our players.

Will,

I think most folks will know that the poll question pertains to the time when they start playing their Christmas music in earnest. If they want to qualify their vote with a notation of any kind, they can just file a post on the thread.

Had to vote year round, but usually, it's late July- early August. My iPod make that change over around that time.
Maybe it's cooling mowing the lawn when it's 90 while listening to Bing or Perry.

Wow!  You mean you can program your iPod to change playlists automatically on certain dates?

Sorry, poorly worded by me.  I choose a different playlist when I go out to do yardwork around that time.
Patiently waiting for the local radio to make the change. I know it's the same songs, but there's something about hearing Christmascmusic over the radio.

My wife and I "sort of" play our Christmas music year-round but I voted "October" in the poll since late in October is when we play it much more often, ramping up to about now when it's going almost all the time. During the rest of the year (roughtly March - September) we play one CD or LP on a Saturday or Sunday on, or near, the 25th of the month...weird, I know!!

I usually play the first Christmas song on THE FIRST colder day in late summer. You know, it might be late August or early September, and you'll get that cold day or night when the temperatures dip, and I'll think, "Well, I guess summer is over...." I'll turn the air conditioning off, get out a sweatshirt, and look for Perry Como.

I start listening the day after Thanksgiving, and listen up until Christmas day. I have a lot of favorite albums to listen to each year, but I manage to fit them all in during that time.

November is accurate for when regular playtime begins.

More technically, one or two songs get played as soon as Trick-or-Treating is over, just as a sort of "launch event."

Though the point when the music starts playing regularly is difficult for me to determine. It just sort of happens. The timing of the first snowfall probably has an impact on this too, and that always gets accompanied by The Carpenters' "First Snowfall," and consequently, the remainder of the LP.

I wait until the first of December.  Of course, the radio starts playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving, so that makes it more of a challenge.  When I start hearing inferior modern renditions of certain songs, it only makes me want to break out the definitive versions all that much sooner. There's only so many times I can suffer through Justin Bieber singing "The Christmas Song" before I need a dose of Nat King Cole or Johnny Mathis to cleanse the palate, so to speak.

I start listening in early November, in bits and pieces.  I put up my tree the weekend before Thanksgiving. Once that's in place, it's all Christmas music for me!

I listen to Christmas Music through Dec 25 and gradually wean off it in the days following.  Sometimes, I'll cue up an album or song I didn't get to hear that season or that I just want to hear again one more time for one reason or another.  I know I've probably said this elsewhere, but NFL playoffs and bowl games ease my transition from Christmas to the New Year.

Next November, I'll welcome back the Christmas season and Christmas music like a long-lost friend!  It makes me appreciate it that much more!  Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

Happy New Year to all!

Just saw this posting....for the most part I usually start around mid-November. They say that the arrival of Santa Claus in the Thanksgiving Day Parade begins the unofficial start of Christmas which tell me it's time to drag out the Xmas albums CD's etc and put up the tree or turn on the YL if you have a copy to watch! But i must admit...during the spring and summer months especially on my free days while I tool around with youtube, I have been known to throw in a Xmas song or 2 in between! The cast of Sesame Street always sang "Keep Christmas With You All Through The Year" in the parade...I believe that what I just described defines just that....agreed?

We generally start the week after Thanksgiving.  Although my husband plays it all year long.
