This post is really meant for Chip, but if anyone else would like to chime in by all means go right ahead.

To explain things as quickly as possible, I'm simply going to quote my original post from Falalalala.com:

During a routine Amazon search, I stumbled across a CD listing for We Wish You A Merry Christmas by The Johnny Mann Singers, originally released in 1967, slated for a November 11, 2014 reissue date.
http://www.amazon.com/We-Wish-You-Merry-Christmas/dp/B00OKF3MMY/ref=sr_1_5?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1414762879&sr=1-5&keywords=johnny+mann+singers

It doesn't look like much from the cover art, but releases from small and large record labels alike often see the light of day with dreadful reissue artwork.

Google revealed the following, courtesy of the Primarily A Cappella label site:
http://www.singers.com/details/?Artist=Johnny%20Mann%20Singers&Title=We%20Wish%20You%20A%20Merry%20Christmas&xc=7607c&si=

So, it looks like this release is legit. Whether or not We Wish You A Merry Christmas is held in high regard as one of the classic LPs from the Golden Age of American Christmas Music (1940s, '50s, '60s, and the early part of the '70s), it still bears mentioning here for those who might be interested. As for me, I'm pretty much down for ANY vintage Christmas album reissue so I've got a copy on order from Amazon.

We debated whether or not the CD contained the original 1967 LP or the "later" re-record based on the product description:

Legendary, Grammy-winning arranger/conductor Johnny Mann and his prolific Singers apply their bright, smooth, spirited Sixties sound to this excellent Christmas collection. This recording was a big hit when first released in 1967 but ever the perfectionist, Johnny decided in later years to re-record the album with new singers and fresh arrangements. Traditional carols like As Lately We Watched, Lo How a Rose, Deck the Halls, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Christmas Tree, The First Noel of course are here, wonderful and sincere; but we especially like lesser known tunes such as Johnny Bring The Pine Tree In, Sleep, Sleep Jesus, Sleep' and the lovely Susan Belle.

I held out hope that the CD I purchased was the original 1967 LP.

Last night, I received We Wish You A Merry Christmas on CD but still couldn't tell what exactly I received as evidenced by my follow up Falalalala.com post:

OK, I just got the Johnny Mann Singers CD in the mail from Amazon. I've never heard the original 1967 LP so I can't determine if the following songs, excerpted from the Primarily A Cappella CD, are from the '60s LP or the re-record hinted at in the marketing blurb - which has since been amended on Primarily A Cappella's web site to REMOVE the bit about the re-record. Hmmm. Something's a little screwy here. What did I just buy? Please confirm one way or another if you can.

Can you help, Chip?

Re:The Johnny Mann Singers 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' (1967) Reissued on CD?

Yes Peter, I can help you. This reissue CD is definitely of the original 1967 Liberty Records recording.  It was released this year to honor Johnny who passed away on June 18th. (Click here for my tribute post from last June.)

This album resides in the 2nd Tier of my Top 500, coming in at #230.

Thanks, Chip.
He asked me and I didn't know for sure. I listened and thought they were the same but somebody suggested (quite rightly) that you would probably know. As you do....
