Recently while watching a compilation of Christmas Commercials from 1972 (I would have been 7 at the time) I saw one that was not familiar to me that featured Bing Crosby sitting in an easy chair introducing an LP entitled "Christmas Is". As the commercial goes on, it was apparently another part of those special products from Columbia which were apparently put together for Goodyear. However, it does not appear to be part of the more popular 'Great Songs of Christmas' series with which I am familiar. Having recently purchased the Goodyear Great Songs of Christmas Masterwork Edition (2023) from Real Gone Music, I was curious if this group was familiar with the tracks on this. I found the back and front covers of this LP and have attached them here. Interestingly, according to the back jacket, "Christmas Is" by the Hillside Singers, "What Child is This" by Vicki Carr and "Silent Night Holy Night" by Julie Andrews were all recorded "especially for use on this album". I thought that the audience here on the Yulelog would be the most expert in possibly identifying some additional info here and whether any of these 'special' tracks have been released elsewhere. The Hillside Singers' song on the LP, "Christmas Is," was also released on their own Christmas album that year on Metromedia Records; and the other two songs on various compilation albums over the years. Have you ever created or considered creating a listing of your favorite Christmas compilations "that every home should have" in its Christmas collection? Maybe a Top 20? By the way, have all the songs on "Music To Trim Your Tree By" (RCA Victor PRS225, RVS81, released 1966) been otherwise released on CD? I recall that was a favorite compilation of yours some time back. Do you think RealGone will ever release it as a CD? Anyway, I am sure I speak for most everyone here and hope you are well. I know you were under the weather a few weeks back. We very much appreciate all your fine work in continuing to get the 'real, original' Yule Log into so many of our homes this Christmas. I will be watching here in the MidSouth on Antenna Tv with my Tablo all set. We certainly need the music and the warmth of that fireplace, perhaps more than ever, this coming Christmas. But I'll post my Top 5 below. As for *Music To Trim Your Tree By, no it has never been released on CD before. Notwithstanding, most of the songs on the album have been released on other CDs over the years; but sadly, there are still several* that have not. And no, it is not likely that we will ever be able to release the album through Real Gone Music, as the record companies still are not playing ball for the most part regarding releasing reissue CDs. I have always been a big fan fo the Goodyear Series (especially the first "original" nine). I have to say that while I like all of them, numbers 5 & 6 (the "red albums:) are my personal favorites.
