I received a very nice email today from Kenneth Mantovani, son of the great maestro, regarding the upcoming release of his father's 1958 Christmas Carols LP on CD:

Dear Chip

Many thanks indeed for your enthusiasm and loyalty regarding my father's music.  My sister, Paula, and I are delighted that you have finally succeeded in having the "Christmas Carols" transferred to CD to be released in November - a great achievement.

Since my father's death in 1980, due to popular demand, we have promoted Mantovani concerts around the world, including UK, America, Japan, Korea and China.  Although we can never replicate my father's presence, it has helped to keep the sound alive and they have been well received.

Once again, thank you so much for your continued support and we hope the launch in November will be hugely successful.

With best wishes
Kenneth

Anyone know where to find listings of these Mantovani concerts?

Barry,

Ken Moulton (who runs the current Mantovani orchestra) told me today that he is currently organizing the next tour for the orchestra; but unfortunately, it will be in China. The new tour will include about 8 to 12 concert dates to be held between December 22, 2012 and January 6, 2013. The conductor he will choose to lead the orchestra for the new tour will probably be his usual conductor, Charles Ellis. Unfortunately, there are no current plans under consideration to tour North America. If that should change, however, I will certainly let you know.

By the way, the official website for the orchestra is
http://www.themantovaniorchestra.com/. (Please note: the current concert schedule page on the website still shows the 2011 concert tour of China, which, parenthetically, had been cancelled.

Chip,
I hope you're well and have had a great start to 2015.  Perhaps a bit off topic, yet I found this while doing some surfing earlier today and thought of this place.  It was this forum and your work in getting Christmas Carols transferred to CD that I became aware of his great work and music.  The link I am embedding is from a video report from the UK (Telegraph) about a 10,000 pound/night room in London that was created in part because of the great Mantovani.  There will be a quick photo of him in the report as well as a comment in the article itself.  Clearly this would be a wonderful place to stay...if you've got 10,000 pounds laying around...

Very interesting, Bob. Thanks for sharing.

Also glad to hear it was because of my efforts that you became acquainted with Monty's great music. It's deeply gratifying to know that my goal of introducing his music to new folks is being achieved.

By the way, that 2009 reissue of Monty's first Christmas album that I got released with Collectors' Choice Music is now out of print, but I've been working to get it re-released with Gordon Anderson's new record company, Real Gone Music. In the meantime, new copies are available on Amazon, but they go for big bucks.

In every post I file where applicable, I always try to post a sample of an artist's music, and this post gives me a great opportunity. So for a little Christmas in April, here's a stellar example of the great Maestro's music.
This classic Mantovani holiday arrangement is a
quintessential example of his trademark signature sound of cascading, soaring and tumbling violins....

Thank you, Chip.  I appreciate your comments and including Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.  I have become partial to his version of O Come All Ye Faithful, Joy To The World, and I Saw Three Ships from his Christmas Greetings album.  The Mike Sammes Singers (I believe...) along with "Monty's" arrangements are really great...IMO.

I appreciate your efforts in working constantly to get some of the truly great artists and Christmas music restored and on CD.  I've already given you my suggestions...so I won't take space to do it again!!!

Enjoy the weekend and thanks again for what you do.

My pleasure, Bob.

By the way, as I'm sure you already know, Monty's absolutely outstanding and magnificent version of O Come All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fideles) is a particular favorite of mine as well. So much so, that (as I'm sure you also know) was the song that I chose to open the new fourth hour that I created for the Yule Log telecast in 2009. For anyone who could possibly not be familiar with it, I'll post it below.
