The complete local Tribune affiliate schedule will be posted in a separate thread on the board in the coming weeks, but I just wanted to advise right now that the flagship station of Tribune Broadcasting, and the original home of the legendary Yule Log broadcast, WPIX-TV, will be airing the program Christmas Day from 9am-1pm (EST).

Please note: WPIX is going to air the old (and inferior) 1966 16 millimeter Yule Log footage (which thankfully only aired from 1966-1969) between 8am-9am as a bonus on Christmas morning; but no worries, as the classic and legendary 1970 35 millimeter Yule Log footage (that aired from 1970-1989, and then 2001 to the present) will be broadcast from 9am-1pm.

I’ve recently started using a Roku device for watching tv (instead of cable) and PIX11 has an app/channel. I’m wondering if you know or can find out if they will have the Yule Logs available to watch on it.

The Yule Log will stream on PIX11.com and the PIX Facebook pages (PIX11 News, PIXYuleLog and WPIXArchives).

And clips will be available for repeat viewing on PIX11's channel on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick and Android TV.

I went to watch The Yule Log on my ROKU this morning and the app is changed to just News.  I use to be able to watch a lot of WPIX archives, but now it appears to be just the news. :-(  Would you know if they changed the app because of the station being bought by Sinclair?

WPIX was sold to E.W. Scrippts Company, not SBG (Sinclair Broadcast Group); the sale to SBG had been aborted a long time ago. And as I said on another thread a few days ago, under the terms of the sale E.W. Scrippts gave Nexstar Media Group (which is the new owner of WGN America and Antenna TV) the option to buy back the station between March 31, 2020 and December 31. 2021. So things are currently in flux.

Anyway; no, I don't think the change of ownership had anything to do with the change of the app on ROKU. But it's a shame that because of it, you weren't able to view the program. Hopefully, that change is temporary.

I apologize for my confusion....  I was reading a few different articles about WPIX and them being bought out by another company, and got Scrippts and SBG confused.  I did see something that there is an option, I believe for WPIX to buy it back themselves in 2020.  If I am mistaken, again I apologize.  It would be nice to see WPIX as an independent station again, but I am sure it would cost them much more to operate than being a network affiliate.

I hope the ROKU app changes back the way it use to be.  There were a lot of great clips from WPIX archives.  I am listening to The Yule Log on Facebook right now, but it isn't the same as on a large screen TV.

The buy back is exclusively for Nexstar, Susan. But I too would love for WPIX to become an independent station again like it was years ago; however, it's highly unlikely that will ever happen.

I remember when they were an independent and they had a lot of great programs that even today, most of the Retro-TV stations don't air.  The Odd Couple for one we used to watch it every night.  Even their movies at 8:00 PM.  But now it is mostly network programming.
