Date Posted:11/12/2009 01:00:15Copy HTML If you are looking for more Percy Faith Christmas music, you can find, "My Favorite Things" on the "south pacific/The sound of music" CD issued by Taragon Records. Re:two more Percy Faith Christmas songs Date Posted:12/03/2009 10:43:51Copy HTML Another, less well-known one: Collectables Records' Subways Are for Sleeping/Do I Hear a Waltz? twofer includes "Be a Santa", from the former LP.
Incidentally, I've always liked that Comden-Green song, and it kind of surprises me that it hasn't been covered by more artists. I know the Living Voices did it on their Little Drummer Boy album, and Mitch Miller and the Gang did a version that was issued as a 45 RPM single b/w "Must Be Santa" (but, oddly, was never included on the Holiday Sing-Along LP or even added as a bonus track on the CD reissue). Other than that, though, the song seems to have been forgotten. |

Re:two more Percy Faith Christmas songs Date Posted:12/05/2009 09:47:47Copy HTML Jim: Yes, both of the Percy Faith CDs that you alluded to are still in print. Mike: Unfortunately, both songs, Be A Santa and Must Be Santa, have never gotten the recognition they truly deserve. Back in July I did an In The Spotlight tribute to Mitch Miller featuring Must Be Santa, click here. Both of these songs are on my short list for consideration if I was to add a 4th hour to the Yule Log soundtrack, but more on that later. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:two more Percy Faith Christmas songs Date Posted:12/06/2009 09:30:41Copy HTML Mike,
The set is available even cheaper from this eBay seller. I purchased it from them 2 years ago, and they seem to have several, including this one for $3.99 plus shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/3-CD-Christmas-Songs-to-Remember-36-All-time-Favorites_W0QQitemZ390122374546QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMusic_CDs?hash=item5ad51b0592 They have several other similar Christmas compilations listed. |

Re:two more Percy Faith Christmas songs Date Posted:12/07/2009 01:54:24Copy HTML Mike, Percy Faith's rendition of Christmas In Killarney was first released by Columbia Records as a 7" 33 1/3 rpm single in 1950, with the B-side being Norah (catalog #1-899). It was simultaneously released that same year as a 7" 45 rpm single, also with the B-side being Norah (catalog #6-899, and later as 4-39048). Then, in 1951, Columbia Records re-released Christmas In Killarney as a single again, this time with the B-side being Sleigh Ride (catalog #4-39559). Sleigh Ride, which had vocals as well, had originally been released in 1950 on a single as the B-side to the song Christmas In My Heart (catalog #4-39011). Another Percy Faith single that was released in 1950 was Brazilian Sleigh Bells, with the B-side being What Is This Thing Called Love (catalog #4-38986, and later as 4-39323). By the way, the Shillelagh Singers were actually in fact the Ray Charles Singers. This was the only time the Ray Charles Singers were ever billed under this name. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:two more Percy Faith Christmas songs Date Posted:12/12/2009 05:34:58Copy HTML "Children's" singer/songwriter Raffi has a sweet version of "Must Be Santa" - I am surprised that it isn't covered by more artists.
