Date Posted:11/13/2018 09:11:41Copy HTML WOR Channel 9 in New York for quite a number of years aired the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" on it's "Million Dollar Movie". I think this was during the early 60s. The movie would air at about 4:30 every afternoon from about Dec 15 right through New Year's Eve. One year, I think 1974, the station aired the film on Christmas Eve overnight right to Christmas Morning in continuous showings. I was introduced to this film by "Million Dollar Movie". Anyone else recall watching "A Christmas Carol" on WOR-9? |

Re:Who remembers when "A Christmas Carol" (1951) aired on WOR-9 Date Posted:11/14/2018 09:55:33Copy HTML Me too :-) While living in Vermont, we would receive some Canadian channels as they were in our receiving area, and they aired a version hosted by Patrick MacNee I have a taped copy of it somewhere in my VHS tapes. It is the 1951 version of Scrooge - A Christmas Carol with Alistaire Sim. I think it was aired on other networks too, I want to say we watched on on CTV Network in the 1980's and though I don't remember them saying why Patrick hosted it, I think it had to do with his playing a young Jacob Marley when The Ghost of Christmas Past was taking Scrooge back in time. Re:Who remembers when "A Christmas Carol" (1951) aired on WOR-9 Date Posted:11/15/2018 02:37:09Copy HTML Susan, The reason why Patrick MacNee hosted that nationally televised broadcast of the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol (which, by the way, was in 1989), was because not only did he play the young Jacob Marley in the film, but it was to premiere the new colorized version of the film. Re:Who remembers when "A Christmas Carol" (1951) aired on WOR-9 Date Posted:11/16/2018 02:04:45Copy HTML Chip, Thank you for confirming my suspicion as to why Patrick MacNee hosted it. And for adding that it was because it was the premiere of the nationat colorized broadcast in 1989. I will have to find the tape and watch it again to see if I have the full broadcast. I may have edited out the commercials by pausing the tape when it was recording, or copying it to another machine. Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.
