Earlier tonight TCM showed Miracle on 34th Street as part of its annual "31 Days of Oscar" programming. I tuned in about halfway through and naturally couldn't resist watching it to the end.

Am I nuts? :D

No Mike, you are not nuts. I watched it earlier tonight too, and it was a real treat. It was followed by another great treat: Leo McCarey's great 1944 classic, Going My Way.

TCM this evening was spotlighting four of the rare films that have won two different Academy Awards for writing. Besides Miracle on 34th Street and Going My Way, the other classic films they spotlighted were Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) and The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936).

TCM also ran The Wizard Of Oz Saturday night.  From about 1956 through '62, CBS ran it in an early Sunday evening slot about two weeks before Christmas.  So for a few years, The Wizard Of Oz was an early Christmas treat!

Less than 24 hours after last night's showing of 1947's Miracle on 34th Street and 1944's Going My Way, Turner Classic Movies at 2pm this afternoon showed another great classic Christmas movie that I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Valentine's Day in February: legendary producer Samuel Goldwyn's magnificent 1947 film, The Bishop's Wife.

Heck, with TCM airing all these Christmas movies, I should have left my tree up a little longer.

I have all these movies on DVD, but it's always more special when you see them broadcast on TV.

By the way, I thought I'd share one of the great poignant scenes from this outstanding motion picture: it's the scene when Dudley (played
by the great Cary Grant) tells the story of David to little Debby (played by child actor Karolyn Grimes). Looking on in the scene is the always wonderful Loretta Young, as well as David Niven, and great character actors Elsa Lanchester and Sara Haden. Besides being an avid Christmas music collector and connoisseur, I am also an avid classic movie buff -- and I can tell you categorically that they just don't make them like this anymore. That's why it's called the Golden Age of Hollywood folks...

Re:Watching Christmas films outside the holiday season

I've noticed a lot of reruns on TBS TVLAND and other channels as well as a few Premium Channels that have been showing Christmas episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, House, The Bernie Mac Show, Jamie Foxx, According To Jim among others.

This was actually a search I did yesterday on our Dish Network DVR.   I did a search specifically for the word "Christmas" I didn't specifically search for movies so there could actually be more things that would've come up but this it basically what it has been like since January,

Monday 2/14 on REELS there is a Christmas episode of Cheers at 10:30 AM
at 11:30 on BET there is a Christmas episode of The Jamie Foxx Show at 11:30
at noon on Encore Nothing Like the Holidays
on HDNET at 6:00PM JAG has a Christmas episode

Tuesday at noon on SoapNet Beverly Hills 90210 is showing a Christmas episode
on FX at 2:00 PM The Bernie Mac show is a Christmas episode
On HBO-East at 6:30 they are showing The Making of Four Christmases
on TBS at 10:00 PM The Office is a Christmas episode

On Wednesday WGN America is showing a Curb Your Enthusiasm Christmas episode at 1:30 AM

On Thursday at 6:30 PM TBS is showing a Christmas episode of Everybody Loves Raymond

On Friday the 18th on EWAM (one of the Encore stations) they are showing Nothing Like The Holidays at 4:20 PM
at 6:00 PM on TV Guide Network they are showing a Christmas episode of Ugly Betty
at 7:30 PM HBO-East is showing Four Christmases
at 8:00 PM Hallmark Channel is showing a Christmas episode of Touched by and Angel

on Saturday, on REELS at 7:30 PM is a Christmas episode of 3rd Rock From the Sun

on Sunday at 6:00PM on BET they are showing "The Perfect Holiday"

On Sunday the 20th on SITV at 8:30 PM they are showing a Christmas episode of In Living Color

On Monday the 21st on SK&FM a Starz Channel at 4:30 AM they are showing "Booky and the Secret Santa"
at 9:00 AM on USA they are showing a Christmas episode of NCIS

on the 22nd on TVLand at 4:30 they are showing a Christmas episode of Home Improvement.

Though it didn't come up in the search I did just now. Christmas Vacation has been on a few times since Christmas as well as some other's that we usually see only at Christmas.

A lot of these have been on several times since Christmas.  I know that on shows like Everyone Loves Raymond, you bound to see a Christmas episode at some point during the year, but you usually don't actually see Christmas Movies after Christmas unless it was a new release on DVD and it would also be on PPV or VOD.

Christmas movies outside the Christmas season! I guess I'm guilty to some extent! We get out a couple of favorites for "Christmas in July" but other than that.....no! I don't watch them. If I notice them on TV or happen by one while surfing then I'm pleasantly surprised and I'll watch it! Last year I came across Chevy Chase's Christmas vacation and a few 1/2 hr sitcom's that had Christmas themes mostly in the fall, I don't know what the occasion was but I did watch them.

I listen to Christmas music (mostly Yule Log) throughout the year mostly via my computer. I don't want to drive the rest of the family nuts so I guess I'll stick with the music only and not add movies! Haa!

God Bless you all!

Loretta Young was born 99 years ago today, so as part of an all-day birthday marathon of her films TCM is showing The Bishop's Wife as I type.

Of course, today is also Epiphany, which means the Christmas season is now officially over.
