Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:08/16/2015 11:18:45Copy HTML Hello Chip, I am very excited about these classic albums being released on CD with original art work and real liner notes by music experts or family members. I want a real hard copy of an album not something on a computer file. The John Gary Christmas album being remastered by Maria Triana alone would have been cause for great celebration, but the other ones by Jimmy Dean and the Box sets for Johnny Mathis and Glen Campbell sound great as well, not to mention the previously revealed nuggets by The Living Voices and George Melachrino. Naturally we share your disappointment about Universal not being able to get their act together to get the Fred Waring and Jack Jones Christmas albums out this year, but we will do everything we can to support you getting them released next year. Thanks again for all you do to preserve and release the greatest music ever produced! Best Regards, Steve

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:08/17/2015 05:30:31Copy HTML Rich: Yes, the Johnny Mathis compilation will include the songs from his 1963 Mercury Records Christmas album, Sounds Of Christmas. Giampiero: Releasing these classic and legendary Christmas albums on MP3 or on Spotify is not, I repeat NOT, a legitimate nor honorable way to release them. It might be acceptable to you and some others out there, but it is categorically not acceptable to me, nor to most of the folks who are members of this message board. Quite frankly, releasing these great albums that way is an atrocious disservice to their legacy. They deserve to be honored with a physical release that includes full original artwork, liner notes and photos. I said it before on the message board, but let me repeat again what a rotten world this would be if there was no longer a way in which you could physically purchase an album. This virtual stuff of today is for the birds, and I think it's despicable that for the most part in the music industry today, the beauty of a physical release of an album has pretty much gone by the wayside. Downloadable music? Downloadable artwork? Downloadable liner notes? Phooey! That may be the current tide in the music industry today, but I'll sure as hell work as hard as I can against it. As far as your list of suggestions for release on CD, you are new to this message board, so I suggest that you peruse the various threads on the board and you will see that I have been working for the release of some of these titles for many years now. Steve: Thanks for the kind and supportive words; I appreciate it. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:08/17/2015 12:11:08Copy HTML Chip,
Though most everyone knows that I prefer Vinyl over Digital, I too believe that MP3 releases of these True Classic Christmas Albums as MP3 is an atrocity. If anyone wants MP3's, they could try and track down each song and put them into their proper order and listen to them that way, but again, it isn't a good idea at all to release these as MP3's and not honor their legacy with the original artwork and notes. What would be really great, if they could include the original inner sleeve artwork that some of the record companies used on the original releases that showed other albums available from that particular record label.
Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:08/17/2015 12:52:26Copy HTML Chip, I own about 10.000 CDs all from original albums (I know perfectly what do you mean) but I cannot spend all my money to by CDs (I also collect jazz, soundtracks and more) so sometimes I give priority to that which I cannot find as free mp3 or Spotify/Rdio free streaming. That's all. Don't get angry ...

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:08/17/2015 06:44:44Copy HTML Susan: It's a novel idea, but the problem is that for the record companies back then that used promotional inner sleeves for their LPs, they would invariably change over the years; so it could get tricky trying to ascertain what the original inner sleeve was when the album was released. And one company that was famous for using promotional inner sleeves for their LPs, Decca Records, would present a serious challenge because in the late '50s and early '60s they had five different LP inner sleeves each year. All five were formatted the same, but they had different background colors (red, green, blue, gold and purple) and each had a different set of promotions. Giampiero: You need to understand that a lot of hard work and attention to detail goes into producing these CD reissues (remastering of the recording, restoration of the original album artwork, the CD booklet, liner notes, photos, etc.) and just because some of them might currently be available as digital MP3 downloads or on Spotify for streaming, that shouldn't in any way mitigate the significance of these releases. And clearly what you said at the beginning of your post, whether it was intended or not, seemed to trivialize the integrity of some of the new releases. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

I appreciate and understand perfectly your very hard work. To own a Real Gone CD with original front/back cover, great booklet, new remastering and bonus tracks is for me a dream come true. Mp3 and music on streaming are garbage. Therefore I'm very sorry that you have completely misunderstood my post.

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:11/14/2015 01:57:57Copy HTML Hi Chip
Just curious... do you ever talk sales with Gordon? I'm enjoying the real gone reissues I've picked up this season... the quality of the mastering and packaging are second to none and hope for many more in the years to come... but does he sell enough of these re-issues to make it a financial feasibility? Thanks. |

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:11/16/2015 04:08:11Copy HTML Yes Jack, I do indeed discuss sales with Gordon. And yes, it is financially profitable in releasing these Christmas CD reissues -- as long as the correct titles are chosen, which is why Gordon relies so heavily on my guidance as to which ones to release. This is why Gordon affectionately refers to me as "The Christmas guy" for Real Gone Music. It's a pleasure after all these years to finally have a record company that I can work with to finally get these classic Christmas albums back in print. Gordon respects my knowledge as a Christmas music archivist, which is why he asked me to write the liner notes for the Top recommendation on my list for release last year: Frank DeVol's The Old Sweet Songs Of Christmas. This year, he gave me free reign to write the liner notes for any of the new Christmas releases, but because of time considerations, I had to decline. However, for the album that ranked the highest in my collection that I got back into print this year, John Gary's The John Gary Christmas Album, I personally asked John's wife Lee to do the task and she happily agreed. The other one that I would have liked to have written the liner notes for if I had had the time was for The Living Voices release; this one because of my friendship with Ethel Gabriel, the legendary RCA Records producer and creator of all the "Living" groups for RCA. However, Joe Marchese of The Second Disc did a great job, as always. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:11/20/2015 03:24:30Copy HTML Chip, I'm curious whether the Living Voices twofer will also have the original Ralph Hunter Christmas Surprises artwork somewhere inside the booklet?

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:11/20/2015 08:25:39Copy HTML Yes, I made sure that the original 1959 Ralph Hunter Christmas Surprises LP artwork was included in the CD booklet. By the way, the reason why I advised Gordon to release the album in its repackaged 1962 incarnation, The Living Voices Sing Christmas Music, is because it was in print for far longer in that form than its 1959 Christmas Surprises predecessor. And in addition to the fact that the great majority of people know the album by that Living Voices incarnation, I also did it to encourage Gordon to release it as a 2-fer CD with the Living Voices 1965 LP, Little Drummer Boy. It worked, as he accepted my proposal and I got both albums back in print. This was especially pleasing to me because of my friendship with the legendary RCA Records producer Ethel Gabriel, and my desire to get the albums back in print while she was still alive. As a matter of fact, I just talked with her on Monday, which was her 94th birthday! She's doing great and I told her that she seems to be getting stronger as she gets older! She's an unbelievably strong and amazing woman and I cherish our friendship. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:12/02/2015 10:56:17Copy HTML We have been delighted by the Christmas music releases added to our music library this year, which includes the Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell, Jim Nabors, Jimmy Dean, John Gary, Melachrino, and Living Voices CDs. Most of this music is very familiar to us as we have had the vinyl versions for many years. A rather pleasant surprise for us was Jimmy Dean's Christmas Card. Both my wife and I must have heard something from this album over the years but do not recall any of it. It was a pleasure hearing some great "new" Christmas music on this album. Our local record store has a couple of LP copies so I'll probably make a purchase to add it to our vinyl archives as well.
Cheers to our resident Christmas Music Guru and Real Gone Music for another great string of releases! Jeff |

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:02/26/2016 02:59:59Copy HTML None of those titles are being considered for this year, Jim. But we have over a dozen great new Christmas CD reissues currently being worked on for this year. As usual, the Sony titles will be routine and the UMG titles the more difficult to secure; however, I'm quite optimistic. As soon as I am able, I will be exclusively announcing the new releases for 2016 here on the message board. I've also been very busy this month creating the demo disc and the accompanying jewel case artwork for the new Fifth Hour of the Yule Log that I finished producing last year in anticipation of the program's upcoming 50th anniversary. I'm glad to say, and delighted to finally announce here, that the completed demo disc is now in the hands of the execs at WPIX-TV here in New York. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:02/27/2016 04:44:19Copy HTML Thank you Susan, I appreciate it. I knew you would be pleased, knowing how much you love the program. I initially began producing this new Fifth Hour in mid-2014 in anticipation of the Yule Log's approaching 50th anniversary in 2016. I worked on the new hour on and off for well over a year. I made my final decision on the songs in the fall of 2014, and then began the delicate work of meticulously arranging them in the best order that they should play. Then, a year ago, in January of 2015, once that process was completed and I had settled on a final arrangement, I formally submitted to WPIX my proposal of celebrating the Yule Log's 50th anniversary with a special "Jubilee celebration 5-hour presentation" of the telecast and provided them with the proposed new Fifth Hour's track list. Subsequent to this, came the long tedious production work of laying the hour down and working the segues between the songs so that they're perfectly timed, which takes considerable time as the program's soundtrack, as you are aware, has a unique pace and flow to it. Then, once the hour was fully produced and I was pleased with the final result, came the final production work of creating the demo disc and accompanying jewel case artwork to present to the execs at WPIX. I'll soon be posting all of this information on an upcoming thread on the board, along with some sneak peeks and insights into the new Fifth Hour. It will also include some of the insights that I've already shared in previous posts here on the board. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:02/29/2016 01:47:26Copy HTML Great Chip on two accounts first that Real Gone Music continues with new Christmas CDs and secondly
The 5th hour of the Yule Log submission. I have bemoaned my fate here before that I had no access to the Yule Log Show until last Christmas. Christmas 2015 I got to watch/listen to a lot of the Antenna TV version for the first time "live" from a distant but receivable over the air channel. So I look forward to hopefully see an announcement that Antenna TV will pick up or at least offer to their stations the 5th Hour for Christmas 2016. Steve

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:02/29/2016 07:55:35Copy HTML Steve, I will be making a push to get the new Fifth Hour shown on the local Tribune affiliates -- especially the ones that currently air the broadcast for more than 4 hours. As for the Antenna TV affiliates, I will offer the new Fifth Hour to Sean Compton (President of Strategic Programming) and make a push to get it shown nationally. However, that will be more problematic, as the Antenna TV affiliates are a more plentiful and diverse group than the local Tribune affiliates. The reason for that is because Antenna TV is available to all broadcasting networks as an affiliate channel, not just Tribune; therefore, the network affiliations for Antenna TV run the gamut: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and more. Getting the complete 4-hour broadcast to air nationally on Antenna TV was challenging enough; and the 5-hour broadcast will be even more so. But I'll do my best. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:02/29/2016 01:33:32Copy HTML Thanks Chip I had figured out from some of your earlier comments it was a little of the Wild West mentality out their for Antenna TV aka every man for himself. But luckily the one distant local for me that showed it this year, did it straight up, I saw no commercial cut ins and nothing felt clipped. and ran for 4 hrs. So my first over the air experience was probably as good as it could be. Amen
Even though I am close enough to get a lot of big city over the air TV from Detroit, none of those big city station with all their power, money , and numerous sub channels are not Tribune and do not carry Antenna TV. I have to spin the rotor on my roof antenna 180 degrees from Detroit and get central Michigan small town channels to find it. Complain I do not any more, I found it. Steve

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:03/02/2016 03:26:22Copy HTML Hello Chip, I cannot tell you how excited I am to hear that Real Gone Music with your strong guidance is cooking up more than a dozen possible Christmas releases before the end of the year. I know you will have your work cut out for you working on the UMG releases, but hopefully they will get on board with letting Real Gone Music get some of those golden titles back in print that they have been sitting on for so many years. I know that one of those titles that you have been trying to get back in print that was previously available through your efforts is one of the Holy Grails of Christmas Instrumental Music by the incomparable Mantovani, the great Christmas Carols album. I know that his other Christmas masterpiece, Christmas Greetings From Mantovani, released in Britain by Vocalion as A Song For Christmas, also rates highly on your Top 500 list of the Greatest Christmas albums. I have both of those extraordinary albums in my Christmas collection as well as Mantovani's Christmas Favourites which blends many, but not all of those album cuts together as you well know. Chip, I know that you and I are both sticklers for having iconic Christmas albums re-released in their original packaging and sequence, but I also know that sometimes bonus tracks are added at the end for both commercial and artistic considerations. Well then here is my suggestion that I wanted to run by you that starting calling out to me the last several years that i have been listening to these CD's in all their glory. I will not be surprised if you have already thought of it before me, but I just cannot stop thinking about it how great it would make an already extraordinary album even more iconic. Since the Christmas Carols album is undoubtedly Mantovani's superior album and stands alone perfectly on its own, one hates to alter perfection. But at the same time, I go nuts every time I hear the beauty and majesty of his original Christmas song, Christmas Bells, off Monty's A Song for Christmas album. I have always thought as perfect as the Christmas Carols album is, the Christmas Bells song belongs on that album, perhaps as a bonus song added at the end so as to not mess with the original sanctity of that glorious album. I trust your instincts on this matter, Chip, and I'm dying to know what you think of the idea and whether it makes any sense at all to you. For all I know, you have been working on this already as I know the re-release of the Christmas Carols album has been a high priority of yours for years now and rightly so! Best Regards. Steve

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:03/03/2016 06:25:46Copy HTML Believe me, I would love to do it, Steve, as I absolutely adore the song too. However, negotiating a deal to secure printing rights from UMG for albums in their catalog is hard enough, but when you add bonus tracks to the equation, negotiations become exponentially more difficult. This original song which Monty wrote himself is truly his masterpiece. I only wish that he had written it years earlier so that it could have been on his first Christmas album, where it rightfully belongs. The song would have served perfectly as the finale to the album. The song was a quintessential example of his great signature technique of cascading, soaring and especially tumbling violins, which created that "fountains of thrilling sound" that he was so famous for. To be able to evoke such emotion to this degree with their music is what sets Mantovani and Percy Faith apart from anybody else and puts them in a class all by themselves. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OrLPFlumwx4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Lawrence F. Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:03/03/2016 09:58:50Copy HTML Hello Chip, Well, if anybody could get Monty's Christmas Carols re-released with his truly majestic masterpiece, Christmas Bells, added to its already iconic lineup, it would be you and Mr. Gordon Anderson of Real Gone Music. I am so glad to hear that you hear Christmas Bells the same way I do and how it really belongs on his Christmas Carol's album. It takes my breath away everytime I hear those cascading strings and that hauntingly beautiful melody. I could not agree with you more about Percy Faith and Mantovani standing alone as having the greatest Christmas Instrumental Music ever. There really is not a close second or third, but Frank DeVol comes just below them with The Old Sweet Songs Of Christmas in my humble opinion. Well, heres to hoping that you can do the impossible and get this Christmas Carols album re-released in all its digital glory, perhaps with a new marketing angle by including Monty's absolutely stellar arrangement of his most powerful Christmas original ever, Christmas Bells, included as a final bonus cut. Regardless of the outcome, Chip, I know you and Gordon will have some magnificent releases for us later this year. I still cannot thank you enough for your tireless effort in getting our iconic Christmas albums released in all their original glory. Your taste and tenacity is unsurpassed when it comes to protecting and spreading this glorious music to a new generation of fans as well the ones that grew up on this amazing Christmas music. Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:03/04/2016 07:55:04Copy HTML Hello Chip, Oh Yes, in fact without you and your magnificent Yule Log I do not think I would have ever discovered the brilliant work of Mantovani, in particular that incredibly beautiful masterpiece, Christmas Carols. Growing up as a kid in the sixties, my parents two go to Christmas albums were the Johnny Mathis Merry Christmas album featuring the incomparable Percy Faith as conductor and arranger, and John Klein's A Christmas Sound Spectacular which I spoke to you before about in a long winded story. As a young man I became more and more aware of the importance of the music arranger in popular music, What would Frank Sinatra's music have sounded like without the glorious arrangements of Nelson Riddle or Billy May? Even Elvis Presley requested by name Nashville legendary conductor Bergen White to arrange many of his songs in the seventies. Well this realization and my absolutely love of the Johnny Mathis arrangements on his Christmas gem led me to Percy Faith's Music Of Christmas and eventually his Hallelujah Albums. Wow, I had been missing the most glorious Christmas Instrumental Music ever. As you know from a previous post mentioned above, my search for John Klein's album led me to your Yule Log site where I noticed how high you ranked Percy Faith and Johnny Mathis on your Top 500 list. I took in the fact that Monty's album was rated extremely high as well and starting reading your old posts about the Christmas Carols album and your personal effort to get this sacred gem released on cd. I tracked down a slightly expensive ( well worth every penny and then some in my opinion) version by Collectors Choice Music and found myself in absolute bliss ever since. So without your tenacious efforts and exquisite taste in all things that we love to call Christmas Music, my family and I as well as countless others would be considerably less fortunate and our musical landscape far less rich. Best Regards, Steve

Re:Upcoming 2015 Real Gone Music Christmas CD Releases Date Posted:03/04/2016 03:38:43Copy HTML That's nice to hear, Steve. It's deeply gratifying to know that my goal of introducing this classic Christmas music to new folks and/or reintroducing it to those who grew up with it is being achieved. It's my mission to preserve, protect and promote the legacy of this great music and the magnificent recording artists who have given it to us. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri
