Big news for Yule Log Fans.
Pending FCC approval, starting in 2014, nineteen stations owned currently by Local TV LLC will become members of Tribune Broadcasting.  The stations are:
  • WHNT (CBS), Huntsville, AL
  • KFSM-TV (CBS) and KXNW (MNT), Ft. Smith/Fayetteville, AR
  • KDVR (Fox), Denver and satellite channel KFCT, Ft. Collins, CO
  • WHO (NBC), Des Moines
  • KPLR (The CW), St. Louis
  • WQAD (ABC), Moline, IL/Davenport, IA
  • WDAF (Fox), Kansas City
  • WGHP (Fox), Greensboro/High Point, NC
  • KFOR (NBC) and KAUT (MNT), Oklahoma City
  • WJW (Fox), Cleveland
  • WNEP (ABC), Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA
  • WREG (CBS), Memphis
  • KSTU (Fox), Salt Lake City
  • WTKR (CBS) and WGNT (CW), Norfolk, VA
  • WTVR (CBS), Richmond, VA
  • WITI (Fox), Milwaukee
The cost will be about $4.3 billion in total.  Additionally, they will take full control of KWGN (The CW) in Denver and KTVI (Fox) in St. Louis, where Local TV runs those Trib-owned stations.

Re:Trib Buys 19 Local TV stations

Date Posted:07/03/2013 04:26:13Copy HTML

Tribune has had programming contracts with these stations for some time now and Wendy (Logsdon) has been acting as programming consultant. However, this deal will now officially bring them under the Tribune Broadcasting umbrella.

As for the Yule Log, it has been broadcast in all of these markets for some time now (via Antenna TV) except for two: Fort Collins, CO. and Salt Lake City, UT. However, even after the acquisition, there is no guarantee that the Yule Log will be broadcast in these two markets unless a station in those areas picks the Antenna TV network up -- and since Antenna TV is available to non-Tribune owned stations, it doesn't have to necessarily be KFCT or KSTU.
