I posted this earlier on my YouTube channel as well as on my Yule Log.com website, and I am now posting it here on the message board as well.

The video linked below is the WPIX-TV station ID break from the 2009 presentation of the Yule Log. In the clip, station news anchors Jim Watkins and Kaity Tong announce the premiere of the new fourth hour of the Yule Log and pay homage to yours truly, Chip Arcuri. Thanks Jim and Kaity for the nice shout-out and for your support and enthusiasm for our great Christmas tradition, The WPIX Yule Log!

I also included in this clip the first 5 songs of the new fourth hour, leading off with Mantovani's classic, legendary and sweeping interpretation of Adeste Fideles. Monty's impeccable arrangement of this song is extremely poignant, reverent and wistful and is a heart-wrenchingly quintessential example of his signature sound of cascading, soaring and tumbling violins. It brilliantly reflects something his father taught him when he was quite young: "Put feeling into your music, my boy -- music without feeling is little more than a noise."

The other 4 songs included are Deck The Halls by the incomparable Ray Conniff Singers, Holiday For Bells by the magnificent Bert Kaempfert, Must Be Santa by the wonderful Mitch Miller and Good King Wenceslas by the King of the Yule Log (and of all Christmas music for that matter), the great maestro, Percy Faith. Enjoy!

One problem,Chip..Our Bright House programming here doesn't carry the Antenna Channel...so,will there be an alternative channel we Pasco County residents can turn to for the Yule Log?

Michael,

The closest coverage for your area is Bright House Cable out of Orlando; they are currently broadcasting Antenna TV on their Channel 465. Unfortunately, the only other alternative (if you can get it) is Tribune affiliate WSFL out of Miami.

I see WGN on your list of Stations that are broadcasting the Yule Log,and since we get WGN,that would suffice, unless WGN Bowed out this year.

Sorry Michael, but that is not WGN America that will be airing the Yule Log; it is local WGN (Channel 9) in Chicago. As I had said in my post with the Yule Log television schedule, the national coverage will be broadcast exclusively on Antenna TV.

Hi Chip!

In your proposed 5th hour - YAY will Perry Como finally make it to The Yule Log?  His 1959 "Season's Greetings" is one of the most beautifully produced and recorded Christmas Albums and surely one of its tracks should be on the ol Yule Log!   Also have you ever heard of a record of bells the album cover has 4 different colored bells and I think it was on the Kapp label.   It is such a pleasant and peaceful album sure to get even ol Scrooge in the Christmas spirit and might be a great re-issue for Real Gone Music!

Best and warmest regards,
Bob Grippo

Yes Bob,
I have included Perry Como in the new 5th hour of the Yule Log that I have produced. He is one of five new artists that would appear on the program for the very first time. By the way, the song that I chose to represent Mr. C is his magnificent Christmas single from 1974, Christmas Dream. I believe this to be the most delightfully poignant Christmas song that Perry ever recorded.

And that bells Christmas album you are inquiring about is called Ring the Bells on Christmas Day. It's by The Holiday Bells and was released by Kapp Records in 1963. The album resides in the "Bubbling Under" section of my Top 500, coming in at #370.

His "O Holy Night" from 59' is also a great choice too!

The runner-up Como song that I was considering for the 5th hour was Home For The Holidays. But as for O Holy Night, Perry's definitive version came nine years later on his 1968 Christmas album, The Perry Como Christmas Album.

Great version too!    He never made a sub par Christmas record!    I would love to see more Big Band Christmas albums from bands from the 1940's and 1950's were there many recorded???

No, because by the time it became a common practice for recording artists to release a Christmas album the Big Band era had come to an end and the genre had morphed into MOR/easy-listening.

By its nature, the MOR/easy-listening genre lent itself very well to Christmas music, which is why so many Christmas albums began to be released beginning in the early '50s. And leading the way, of course, were the two greatest of them all: Percy Faith and Mantovani.
