Another great Lady Of Music has passed away.  Patti Page passed away on New Year's Day at the age of 85

I couldn't find a live video of her singing a Christmas song, but this is one of my favorites, especially with the kids in it.

Yes, another great one is gone. She is one of the privileged artists to have two albums in the 1st Tier of my
Top 300: Christmas With Patti Page (Columbia album) coming in at #20; and Christmas With Patti Page (Mercury album) coming in at #80.

My all-time favorite Christmas tune by this great lady of song is Santo Natale.

Chip,
I agree; Santo Natale is the best, and the first Patti Page record I ever knew, courtesy of the Grant's Christmas LP!
RIP.
Also lost Gerry Rafferty two years ago today; ironically, the last 2 songs he ever recorded were Christmas songs: Silent Night, and a complete Latin version of Adeste Fideles (I'd never heard more than the 1st verse before his version).

Best regards of the New Year to everyone.

John

My first recollection of Patti Page was "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window"  It was one of several Childhood records I played over and over and over.

Then as I got older and realized she did many more songs.  Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte became another favorite of mine along with The Tennessee Waltz.

So sad that she is gone and it's a weird feeling, even though she was 85, I still picture her much younger.  The same with all the other artist's.

I still see a young Andy Williams with his brothers or alone when I hear him singing.

I can still hear in my head "Hi I'm Glen Campbell"  but with a Southern Drawl.  Glen is still alive, but I guess his Alzheimer's is progressing fast.

It is so hard picturing how these artists looked when they passed away as well as the ones who are still alive because I was so much younger when I first heard them, and I associate my young age to the age they were when I first heard them.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else or not, but it is strange how the mind works when it comes to musical artists that we grew up listening to.  But, if I am 40+ years older, so are these artists.

That's because that's how we knew them growing up, Susan. And yes, it is very sad to see them at the advanced ages they are now. It seems like only yesterday when they were young, vibrant and beautiful. Now many of them are gone and with each passing there's a void that will never be filled.
It's a sobering reminder of how fast time flies -- and our lives for that matter.

As for other great songs by Patti, I always loved the stereo re-recording of her hit Mockin' Bird Hill that she did for Columbia Records. She was a class act...

Yes, Chip,

It's a good Wake-Up Call to our own mortality too because the same number of years passed for all these great artists as have for us.  It is so sad that we have lost so many great artists, just in the past year.  And there is the possibility that more may leave us.  But we can't live forever.

Sorry, I just realized I basically repeated something I said in a previous post, about aging along with these artists. I just rephrased it.
