Date Posted:11/17/2016 01:12:22Copy HTML I know usually, WPIX would have a Merry Christmas slide/card up as the spoken intro was read by the announcer. But was this, or something like it, ever spoken AS the Log began? I ask because I have this memory of hearing a voice giving the "WPIX has cancelled all morning programming..." spiel while seeing the Log itself begin.

Re:Later on, was the announcement ever played AS the Log footage appeared? Date Posted:11/17/2016 03:44:43Copy HTML The practice of using a still as the backdrop when making the intro, outro and half-hour announcements only began in the early '80s. For all the years before that they were made over the full pan-out shot of the live fireplace. And after the announcements, the camera would then pan-in for the close-up and stay there until the next announcement. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:Later on, was the announcement ever played AS the Log footage appeared? Date Posted:11/17/2016 07:20:33Copy HTML Oh. Chip, I will say that I recalled the "over-Log announcement" happening one of the 1-2 times I saw the presentation in the later '80s. I have reason to believe that I am thinking of the last airing before the return in 2001, in 1989. As I recall it being very early in the morning. Perhaps I caught one of the announcement breaks?

Re:Later on, was the announcement ever played AS the Log footage appeared? Date Posted:11/18/2016 05:52:56Copy HTML No James, you are mistaken. Again, as I said in my previous post, stills began being used as the backdrops for the announcements in the early '80s. On my website, I show four of them: they are the ones that were used for 1983, 1984, 1985 & 1986 (click here). I'll be posting the 1982 still in the near future. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

OK. It's just curious I remember it this other way too.

Date Posted:12/01/2016 02:07:59Copy HTML I've noticed the Removal of the Announcements on the Syndicated version...Is it still on the WPIX Version,ot has it been removed from it as well? I know the 2010 Version did not have it.

Re:Later on, was the announcement ever played AS the Log footage appeared? Date Posted:12/02/2016 12:30:08Copy HTML When the program was reinstated to the air by WPIX in 2001, the practice of doing the hourly and half-hourly announcements was discontinued. Currently, WPIX only does an intro at the beginning and an outro at the end to mention the program's sponsors, as it is shown commercial-free. The only time since 2001 that WPIX has made an announcement in the middle of the broadcast was in 2009, when they introduced my new Fourth Hour which premiered that year. That aforementioned announcement by news anchors Jim Watkins and Kaity Tong, as well as the first 15 minutes of my new Fourth Hour, is posted on my main YuleLog.com website. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I have posted it below. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/blHfXdp7F9A?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Lawrence F.
