Ed Sullivan didn't appear on the actual album, but he picked the songs that were recorded. Ray Bloch served as a Music Consultant for the overall project. The album was conducted by John Gregory and he arranged 12 of the 15 songs. The other 3 songs were arranged by Teo Macero and he produced the album as well.

I am wondering about the George Greeley Best Loved Christmas Piano Concertos?  i see some on eBay and not to bad on pricing, but some have the familiar brownish label on the LP and some have a grey label on the LP.  Is one of these a re-issue by Warner Brothers Records?

You know me, as with you, i do prefer origianal releases where possible over reissues.

For the George Greeley 1959 Christmas LP, the original Warner Bros. record label was the gold; and the original album jacket front cover was the green with the white Christmas tree.

Just discovered that my favorite Harry Simeone Chorale album "The Wonderful Songs of Christmas" (the album that brought me to the Yule Log to begin with) is now on digital! Just downloaded it off iTunes!  :)

Still hope to get this out on CD with Real Gone Music someday.

That would be awesome, Chip! I hope you're also able to get his 1973 "It's Christmas Once Again" released on CD, too!  :)

I actually got the green light from Gordon (Anderson) at Real Gone Music for a CD reissue project for Harry Simeone's 1973 Christmas LP in late December 2017. It would have been released for Christmas 2018; but unfortunately, I couldn't track down the original masters.

Regrettably, the album was recorded with a small independent record company, Omnisound Records, and no one seems to know what became of the original masters; even Mr. Simeone's daughter Molly, with whom I am acquainted, doesn't know.

Today I was delighted to find out that the classic, original Christmas with Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass is finally available in a digital format.

Incidentally, while both Amazon and iTunes use lossy formats for their download releases (MP3 and AAC, respectively), you might be interested to know that most if not all the titles mentioned in this thread can be purchased as CD-quality, or in some cases better than CD-quality lossless downloads via qobuz. That Danny Davis album I just mentioned, for instance, is available there in both 44.1 kHz (CD) and 96.0 (Hi-Res) versions.

At first I was afraid that Danny Davis was the re-recorded version, which has been out digitally for quite awhile. Listening to the samples on Qobuz vs. the ones on Amazon (for the re-recording), they seem to be different.

The Danny Davis re-release is the best news I've heard in a while.  It is absolutely one of my top-10 favorite Christmas albums.

I'm stunned that this is the first time you had heard about this album, considering that it not only resides in the 1st Tier on my Top 500, but in my all-time Top 100; coming in at #90. It's the greatest children's Christmas album ever recorded.

You misunderstand me, Chip. I was certainly aware of the album itself; what I hadn't known was that there had been an official digital version released. Sorry I didn't make myself clearer.

Glad for that at least; I'd hate to think that someone who has been a member of the board as long as you, over 18 years now, would not be familiar with my Top 500 -- especially the 1st Tier.
