KEZK in St. Louis will flip to Christmas music at 5 PM (CT) today 3/20.  The station is doing this to lift the spirits of its listeners during this period of social distancing and quarantining during the Coronavirus crisis.

Not sure how long KEZK plans to do this.  Seems like a very kind gesture, but I can only hope this isn't a stunt for a format flip.  KEZK runs an Adult Contemporary format, so it probably had a high percentage of "at work" or office listeners.  Those workplaces and offices are virtually empty right now.  The listeners are at home.

Will other AC stations follow suit?  It'll depend on how successful KEZK is with this move.

I don't doubt that folks are putting up their Christmas lights but so far, I haven't seen it.

The Hallmark Channel ran Christmas movies over this past weekend.  I checked KEZK's website and yes, they are still playing Christmas music.  Don't know how long they plan to continue.  If I had to speculate, I'd say at least through this coming weekend.

St. Louis is not a large media market, so KEZK is in a better position to take the chance.  KEZK has been St. Louis' Christmas station for a number of years.  Could it happen in NY or LA?  IMHO, it would only be considered if KEZK got a huge ratings spike.  Stakes are much higher in large markets like NY or LA.

Never took our lights down ---- kept mine lit until March!  And some in the area have put theirs on through this!  Now next month Music Choice changes their Sounds of the Season to Christmas in July!  Movies! will probably air 1951's Scrooge (they have done this the last two years)  Hallmark does it some tv stations will air Christmas episodes -- been trying to bring TCM to doing Christmas in July --- last year got a message saying "Great idea"   yet no action!  Love TCM but tired of their same old same old things like Aug's Summer Under the Stars  although TCM is still the best thing since sliced bread!

Bob,

I know the two folks who run TCM, Pola Changnon and Charlie Tabesh, and I'll mention it to them. They went with my Barrymore's Star of the Month suggestion a few years ago, but it does take time; they program well in advance.

Our websites keep the spirit of the holiday season alive all year through; mine, of course, for Christmas and yours for Thanksgiving.

Anybody not familiar with it should check it out: https://www.facebook.com/TheBigParadeHistoryProject.net/

I'm surprised also that TCM's never done some sort of "Christmas in July" programming before. They have more than enough Christmas movies and shorts in their library to do it. Anyway, I formally proposed it to Pola and Charlie as a future July "Spotlight of the Month." The spotlights of the month segments typically air once a week during that given month. But even if they just elect to do a one-night Christmas in July programming celebration it would be better than nothing. And the benefit of something along those lines of a one-night tribute could air every year too.

Thanks Chip!!!!!!    You are right they practilly have all the best Christmas films locked up!!!!!!   One of my new faves is The Holly and The Ivy used to air late late night or am way back in the 70's like The Belles of St Trinains and then it vanished from USA TV i had a firm send me a MOD of it about 4 years ago and it is a wonderful film!   I suggested to TCM through their website then it aired in Dec 2018 and again Dec 2019 the same time Kino Lorber released it finally stateside a stunning Christmas film!!!

Just found out UCLA has the original camera negative for Laurel and Hardys Babes In Toyland and trying to get interested partues to restore the film ecpalining it would preserve the film make stunning prints as it is the nitrate!

Also here is MOVIES!  7/25/2020 line-up sadly no 1951's Scrooge but hoooray for Christmas in July!
