Chip,
Being a Classic Movie buff, I was wondering if you have seen "Christmas Eve"? (1947) with with Ann Harding and George Raft and many other well-known actors.

I saw it with a free Classic Film App on my Android Tablet, but the did have commercials in it, but for free, I can't complain.

Do you know if it was ever released on VHS or not?  I don't believe there is a way to watch it and connect it to my computer so I could record it.

Yes indeed, Susan, I have seen the movie. By the way, even though Ann Harding played the central character in the film (as the mother), the biggest Hollywood Stars in the picture (besides George Raft whom you mentioned) were Randy Scott, Joan Blondell and George Brent. And they were supported by two prolific character actors Reginald Denny and John Litel. One other interesting note about the film was that one of the uncredited writers was future director Robert Altman, who would later direct such notable films as MASH (1970), Nashville (1975) and Gosford Park (2001).

And yes, Christmas Eve was indeed released on VHS. It is now, of course, long out-of-print; however, there is a brand new sealed copy up for auction on eBay if you are interested; click here.

Thank you Chip,

I didn't mention the other actors/actresses being they were listed in the IMDB Link.  I was surprised to see George Raft looking so young, and not like he has been in a lot of his other movies as a gangster tossing a coin.

I did bid on the VHS Tape, and I am sure I will win it.  Thank you again.  It will be nice to see it without interruptions and then part of the scene repeated when the commercial was done.

Thank you for the side note about Robert Altman too.  I know that people depend on IMDB for information about movies, but I remember that Alvin Greenman (Alfred in Miracle on 34th, Street (1947) was uncredited too in the movie, but on IMDB, they listed him as uncredited.

I wish there was an accurate database online so people could have the correct information.  I'm sure there are a lot more notable persons who go uncredited.

I figured with you being a huge movie buff, that you would of known about this movie.  I was surprised to see what movies that I guess are now "Public Domain" that are available for streaming for free on mobile devices.

One thing, with vintage cartoons, they usually will cover up the "Copyright Information" with the color of the background of the opening frames.    I have seen this with some movies too.

I would rather watch movies from Hollywood's Golden Age, than most movies and TV programs that are out there today.

I'm still searching for "The Great O'Malley" (1937) with Pat O'Brien, Humphrey Bogart, Ann Sheridan  and other's, and a movie about an orphan named Dondi (1963) that was based on a Comic Strip Character, and David Jannsen was his "G. I. Buddy.  I have only seen both of these movies once in my lifetime, and don't know if they have ever been released on video or not.  I believe I mentioned these movies in other threads in the past.

Thank you again.

{EDITED 1/23/14} I meant to put 1961 for the year that "Dondi" came out, not 1963"

Susan:

Both The Great O'Malley and Dondi are currently available on DVD. In addition, you can see The Great O'Malley on TCM from time to time. By the way, that picture boasted three of the finest character actors in the business: Donald Crisp, Frieda Inescort and Henry O'Neill.

One correction to your post: Dondi was released in 1961, not 1963.

Ben:

That is correct: TCM aired Christmas Eve last month.

Thanks again, Chip,
Yes, it was 1961, and I did mean 1961, but I had looked up something and had 1963 on my mind, and I need to proofread better.  Thank you for pointing it out to me.

{EDITED}  Unfortunately with my Dish Network package I have now, I don't receive TCM :-(   I wish they had a mobile app to view them so I could still watch the great movies they show.

Chip,
I won the eBay auction.  Thank you again for pointing it out to me.  I really appreciate it.  I'm hoping the video quality will be better on TV than what I am able to see on a mobile device.  I do realize that a movie from 1947 will be a lesser quality then the video quality we have today.

Bogart,

Tank you for letting me know that TCM has a mobile app.

My pleasure, Susan; glad to hear that you won the auction.

By the way, I got a good chuckle out of your typo in your previous post where you referred to Ben (aka bgart) as "Bogart."

Lol,
Chip,

I was on my android tablet, and it was late,  I couldn't see very well, and forgot that "bgart" is Ben.  I know a lot of people refer to me as "Christmas Always"  instead of "Susan"  But it is funny being Humphrey Bogart is in "The Great O'Malley" and was mentioned in this thread :-)

It happens! I've heard all kinds of varieties on my name, intentional and not. Btw, my dog growing up was named Bo.

Ben,
I installed the TCM Mobile App, but since I don't receive TCM in  my package with Dish Network, the App won't work for me.  It was worth a shot though, so I thank you again.
