While browsing through the All Things Christmas Forum I came across an old post that piqued my curiosity :

"I need help remembering my favorite Christmas album as a kid in the mid 1960's!  My parents had some wonderful Xmas albums...The Ray Conniff Singers, Nat King Cole, Big Crosby...and my favorite:  it was an all-boys choir and they had a "guest" singer on some of the songs, a woman who sang opera.  The cover was green, and there were 3 or 4 boys in winter clothes in the snow on the front, with one of the boys by himself on the back."

When I read that I thought to myself, "I know of only one person in the world who could probably identify that LP."

What do you say, Chip?  Do you recognize that album cover?

The album this person is looking for is Wishing You A Merry Christmas by Andre Kostelanetz and his Orchestra. The guests on the album were operatic soprano Phyllis Curtin and the St. Kilian Boychoir. It was released in 1965 by Columbia Records (catalog #ML-6179/MS-6779). The album resides in the 3rd Tier of my Top 500, coming in at #260.

This album's first-ever release on CD came in 2018 when we released it as part of a "complete" Christmas collection of all of Andre Kostelanetz's Christmas material. It's a 2-CD set that includes his two other great Christmas albums: click here.

BRAVO!

I knew my confidence wasn't misplaced!

I didn't let the cat out of the bag but instead over on the All Things Christmas Forum I posted a link to your reply here on the Yule Log Message Board:

most memorable Christmas album/tape from your childhood?

The original post was from six years ago, and the poster hasn't posted anything since, but maybe some readers of the thread may have their curiosity piqued as mine was, and check in over here to find the answer.

Will, I hope you don't mind, but I used you as a referral for All Things Christmas.  I had seen the site several years ago but hadn't signed up and then couldn't find it as well as several other sites.  But I am registered there not too.  Thank you.

I didn't know they required referrals over at All Things Christmas, but I'm glad using my name worked for you.

BTW:  I found the album on youtube:

Now all we have to do is find the person who posted the original query and let her know that the mystery of the identity of her childhood favorite Christmas album has been solved by our own Christmas Music Guru.

Thank you Will,

I am not certain that it required a referral, but when I registered it asked if I was referred by someone.

Hopefully the person who posted the initial query is still an active member.  I have seen some sites where someone asks a question, but it is a few years before there is an answer and then they are no longer a member.

I actually have this album as well as the other Christmas albums by Andre Kostelanetz in my vinyl collection, but it is nice that people who don't have them can at least listen to some of them on YouTube.
