Hi Chip!

Is there a way to set my account so that I will automatically receive and email each day that there are new posts in any of the Yule Log forums?

Will,

With the original Aimoo board (version 7.0.1), you could subscribe to a thread even if you had never posted on it before; unfortunately, after the 2007 conversion to the new board (version 8.0.1), you can only subscribe to a thread that you have posted on.

I'll ask Kevin Feng (the owner of Aimoo) if he can restore that option back to the forum. If he is able to do it, I'll let you know.

Thanks, Chip!

While you're at it, could you ask him if there's a way to be notified by email of new posts to the forums.  It wouldn't have to be an email for every post.  It could just be an alert of the first message on a particular day.  I belong to some groups that work that way.  They notify you of the first message posted each day, and then don't notify you again until the next day that a new message appears.

The reason I'm asking is that I had been checking in every day for the last few weeks, but after a few days in a row with no new posts, I got out of the habit.  And so I missed out on the reactivated "The Glory of Christmas - 101 Strings" thread and didn't catch up to it until a week after the discussion had resumed.

I know!  "If you snooze, you lose."  So I should probably set my browser to automatically open a tab for The Yule Log each time I boot up my computer each morning.

But, still, during the summer months, when there probably will be long stretches of a week or more without any new activity, it would be great if the board could send out an email "heads-up" when something new is posted.

Hi Will,

Just thought I would chime in here.  If you were to reply to any post, there should be a box to check so that you will be notified when someone replies to the thread, but you have to check the box  "Subscribe and be notified via email." that is on the bottom of the message you are typing and then you will be subscribed to that thread.

So for example if you were to go to the 101 Strings The Glory of Christmas thread and do a reply if you check the box you will be subscribed to that thread but I think, that even your own reply you will get an email notification that there was a response the the subscribed thread and it will give you the direct link so you don't have to go to the message board and then click on the subject and find the thread you were looking for.

Will,

Kevin told me that he will keep under consideration of future upgrade to Aimoo's forums whereby a member can elect to subscribe to a thread that he/she has never posted a message on; as well as a general email notification option whereby a member would be notified of initial activity on the board on any given day.

As I had said in my previous post, the former used to be an option on the old Aimoo board; however, the latter has never been an option on Aimoo's forums before, but it would certainly be a nice addition.

As I also had said in my previous post, for now the only option is to subscribe to each individual thread that you post a message on; this way you will at least get an email notification that there is activity on that particular thread. To subscribe to a thread that you are posting a message on, just follow the instructions that Susan gave in her post.

Thanks, Chip, for running this idea by the programmer.

Having that daily notification of new posts would be the cat's pajamas!

In the meantime, I'll try to get this aging old brain of mine to remember to check the "Subscribe and be notified via email" box each time I post something.  In fact I tried to do that yesterday, but then it wouldn't let me post my reply.  The "Post Reply" button was grayed out.  So after many failed attempts to post a reply here I finally gave up and now I'm giving it a second try today.  "If at first you don't succeed...."

And I'll try to keep up the habit of checking in here every day.  Because, after all, this is my favorite web site.
