Date Posted:10/11/2017 01:03:54Copy HTML I've not posted anything in a long time, but I frequently check out this site. My main interest when I joined a few years ago was learning as much as I could about Percy Faith's Music of Christmas album and its prospects or getting a new remaster. I am extremely thrilled that it has finally been remastered and will be released in just a few weeks' time, and I want to take this moment to personally thank Chip for his untiring work in getting classic Christmas albums back in circulation in sparkling new editions!
My question is this: Does the Andy Williams Complete Christmas Recordings (Real Gone, 2013) have better sound quality than the remastered CDs of Andy's "Red" and "Green" Christmas albums that were released in 2004 (I'm not counting the original CD releases back in the 1980's or '90s that didn't sound as good)? I can't seem to find a definitive answer on the internet. I don't care for the arrangements on his Christmas Present album of the 1970s, so I would just be buying the set for his classic 1960's recordings--IF the sound quality is better that what I already have. Opinion, any one? Thank you. TommyEvergreen |

Re:Andy Williams: The Complete Christmas Recordings Date Posted:10/11/2017 04:34:07Copy HTML Thanks for the information, Chip. I guess quality is a subjective thing; I'll have to order the set to see for myself!
Anyway, thank you for all you do to promote Christmas music. If it weren't for your input and passion, a lot of our cherished Christmas favorites would still be collecting dust in record company vaults! TommyEvergreen |

Re:Andy Williams: The Complete Christmas Recordings Date Posted:10/25/2017 01:21:56Copy HTML TommyE, I bought the 'Red' Andy Williams Christmas album that was remastered by Columbia, and has the 'holly' frame around the edge to denote the remastered version; and I thought all they did was make it "year 2000-style"- which means very limited dynamic range, cranked up levels a bit too much. The Real Gone Music Version is much better. It's interesting how different people's tastes are with even the same artist; I love about a half-dozen of Andy's songs from the Red and Green LP's, but absolutely treasure all but 2 songs on his "Christmas Present" album. Glad they have all 3 LP's plus bonus on the CD set since many of us enjoy different styles from even the same artist. I too can hardly wait until November 3rd for the Percy Faith Music of Christmas! Regards, John |

Re:Andy Williams: The Complete Christmas Recordings Date Posted:10/31/2017 04:25:42Copy HTML I just received my copy of Andy Williams: The Complete Christmas Recordings. WOW! Johnnyelectron, you are right--much better sound. Along with the crisper sound, in almost every song I heard details and even instruments that had been completely buried in previous releases.
Thanks again, Johnnyelectron, for giving me a comparison recommendation. Sound quality is important to me, and I am so glad that Real Gone Music goes after quality remasterings. Sincerely, Tom |

Re:Andy Williams: The Complete Christmas Recordings Date Posted:11/02/2017 07:10:16Copy HTML Tommy, I'm glad you liked the Real Gone Music Andy Williams 2-CD set. As I said in my earlier post, it was indeed newly remastered by Sean Brennan at Sony's Battery Mastering Studios here in New York. And given the reputation and track record of Battery Mastering Studios, that alone will really say everything about the sound quality one should expect. That's why I do not even bother to get into specifics about the quality of Battery Studio's remastered recordings, and how they compare to other prior releases. Some things can indeed be subjective, but there will always be a discernible and palpable difference in the sound quality of a recording after they work their magic. These people are the best in the business and their work is beyond reproach. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri
