Found this on YouTube, and thought everyone would love it.  It is the type of Christmas music a lot of us grew up with.  Seems to be instrumental, at least to the point I am listening to it now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2tx5NHDcHA&feature=youtu.be

This is in MONO as the tapes back then, usually MUZAK or an in store music playing device/ being if it were in stereo, depending on where you were in the store, you might only hear one channel.

It would be nice to be able to identify all the tracks in this tape.

I am wondering if some of the "Unidentified" song posts might have the songs in this tape?

Susan! What a find!  I'm in your debt.  Every year I search the web for Christmas Elevator Music, but have never come up with much.  You hit the jackpot on this one.

I just downloaded it as an M4A file.  Am and listening to that file as I type this.

Thanks a million!  You made my Christmas!

Will,

You are most welcome.  I downloaded the audio myself.  Though I haven't listened to it completely yet, even if it doesn't have songs by, for example, Percy Faith or Henry Mancini, it would still be a great listening experience.

Back in the 1970's, I was a secretary for a Professional Sound Company in Mt. Kisco, NY and we not only did the PA systems for schools and so on, we also did the sound systems for some Oldies But Goodies type concerts in NYC and a lot of other places.

One thing the company go into to compete with MUZAK was we sold these tape systems that were part of a Department Stores messaging system, and we sold the machines and tapes.  They were a continuous loop.  We had the basic Easy Listening music from that time period, but also had All Christmas music tapes.

I don't remember the specific songs, but it was awesome to listen to those tapes in our office.  Without knowing who we sold the machines and tapes too, I could sometimes tell what department stores had our system just by the music.

In my opinion, if malls and even department stores outside of malls would play this type of Christmas Music, I would venture to guess that they would get more customers.

I am sure you read some of the comments on the YouTube Video, and one person said "Nowadays, were stuck in a store with Mariah Carey screaming a Christmas carol"  Another comment was similar to what I was saying that if they played this type of music, they would probably stay in the stores longer and that would increase sales for the stores.

That's my post.  Came off of these large cartridges that contained 1/4" 4 track tape, 4 mono programs on each tape, that were from a background music service called customusic.  As I understand it, the player that would play the tapes would hold 6 cartridges, and would switch tapes at the silence between each songs, to cycle through a song from each tape, and would switch tracks on the tape based on there being a longer silence at the beginning of the tape loop, making for a more random background music experience.  Typically only 1 or 2 of the slots would have a Christmas tape, to have a Christmas song come on every 3rd or 6th song, interspaced with the standard background muzak.

One of the tapes includes Percy Faith and Frank DeVol tracks on it.

Hi Jon!

Last year I made a game out of trying to identify the songs in that youtube video.  I  made pretty good progress and kept my handwritten playlist in a one of those school notebooks with tear out pages.

Today I had the thought of picking up that project where I left off last year.  But I've looked everywhere and can't find that notebook.

I thought I had copied the handwritten playlist to a text file on my computer.  But I can't find that either.

I think I exchanged some messages with you about identifying the songs, but I can't remember which platform the messages were on.  Do you remember exchanging any messages with me?

BTW, I'm trying to identify the second song on the "8-Hours" youtube video,  a rendition of "Happy Holiday."  I'd be grateful if someone could identify the orchestra.  You can listen to it on Sound Cloud:  https://soundcloud.com/user-260436412/happy-holiday-muzak
