Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/16/2013 08:18:51Copy HTML Chip,
According to my Dish Network Guide, KTLA is going to be airing "The Yule Log" from 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM Eastern, and then at 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM they are airing "The Yule Log" But you stated that KTLA wasn't showing it. Has there been a program change? Or, is it their own version of The Yule Log"? Both WPIX and KTLA show the exact same description in my guide Series/Special. Seasonal Music. KWGN is also show it from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM Eastern, and then from 8:00 AM Eastern - 11:00 AM Eastern So, I don't know if I should set my DVR for KWGN or not being it is 2 separate programs. I can't specify that the first hour end 3 hours late. so I would have to set it to DVR from 7 -8 AM and then a second recording from 8 - 11 AM and in order to burn it to a DVD, I would have to merge the 2 recordings together. I don't know if my guide will update or not and fix it because last year, KWGN did have it for 4 hours straight as 1 program just like WPIX. Antenna TV shows "Movie" from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM Eastern and then 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM it also shows "Movie" and even on their website, it lists it as "Movie" not "Yule Log" I just want to make sure that I get at least 2 copies on my DVR as always just in case of any glitches,, but because of the way the Guide shows things, I want to make sure that I don't waste my time DVR'ing KTLA and Antenna TV and KWGN. WPIX is the only station that shows it as 1 program for 4 hours. {EDITED by Christmas Always to correct a typo}

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/17/2013 02:35:23Copy HTML Susan, I addressed the situation with KTLA in Los Angeles at the very bottom of my opening post. As for Antenna TV and Denver's KWGN, the broadcast times posted here on this thread are the correct ones. One last thing regarding KWGN, I spoke with programming director Garrett Sailer today and he told me that he might add a bonus 1 hour showing of the Yule Log on Christmas Eve night from 7pm-8pm. If he decides to do it, he will let me know in the next day or two. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/17/2013 02:52:47Copy HTML Thanks Chip,
But according to my Guide on my DVR, it does show KTLA broadcasting "Yule Log" as I stated above. And it is the exact same description of what the guide shows for WPIX. That is why I asked if they are going to do their own version or decided to do the actual WPIX broadcast? My guide is still showing from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM as is WPIX which is actually 6:00 AM to 10: AM Pacific. I just don't want to waste DVR space if it isn't going to be the WPIX Yule Log. Normally, it will change if there is something different, but the guide is provided by Tribune Media Services, the same as who did the Guide for Time Warner Cable when I had Cable TV here. <!--[if gte mso 9]>So, I am still confused if KTLA changed their mind or are they going to do their own broadcast being I can't get any information from the guide other than the description I already gave.
Sorry for the number of pictures. There is a showing on KTLA at 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM Eastern that I didn't set my DVR to record being it is only 2 hours. But then you will see there is 4 hours of "Yule Log" on KTLA also. Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/17/2013 06:03:43Copy HTML Susan, I don't know why you are still confused. As I previously said, if you look at the very bottom of my opening post on this thread you will clearly see that I addressed to situation with KTLA. They are showing their own version of the Yule Log from 4am-10am (PST), not our original program. I called KTLA programming director Sandra Mueller today and she confirmed that nothing has changed. Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/17/2013 08:57:41Copy HTML Chip, I must be missing something because all you stated was those stations including KTLA were not showing The Yule Log, but nowhere is there mention of them showing their own version. So I got the impression that they weren't going to broadcast anything but regular programming Christmas Day. Then when I saw my program guide and that it is for 4 hours too, and the description is vague as is WPIX's, that is why I was asking if it was indeed the WPIC Yule Log because there was no mention of them doing their own broadcast. I hope you can see where my confusion comes in now being all you said is " **KDAF/Dallas, KIAH/Houston, KTLA/Los Angeles and KSWB/San Diego are not showing the WPIX Yule Log. " Not one word about any of them doing their own version at all. Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/19/2013 02:28:55Copy HTML Thank you again Chip,
Yes, this time of year is hard, especially because Christmas takes me back to my youth in some ways and I feel so happy and have that childlike faith, but then I remember my grandparents and my mother who are no longer with me and I get very sad. But I guess you never really get over losing loved ones, no matter how long ago it was. They say in time that it gets better, but they never talk about the Holidays, and that is when a lot of the memories come back and block more current memories. I promise that next year I won't ask about this again because you are very thorough when it comes to which stations are going to broadcast The Yule Log and which ones aren't meaning (Tribune Owned) or Antenna TV Affiliates who carry it on their sub-channels of their regular channel. Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/19/2013 02:55:37Copy HTML Dear Susan -
We've been discussing this aspect of the Holidays over at the Classic Horror Film Board. This will be my family's first Christmas since my dad passed; and in my extended family, a cousin has just gotten rough cancer news. It is true that these "marker" events in our life remind us of the bad with the good. For those of us who do celebrate the original meaning of Christmas, it helps to remember that the family involved then very much had pain and problems in their lives... It seems that in this complicated world, there is no sweet without some bitter. Merriest of Christmases, and most blessed of New Years, to you, and to all here, -Craig |

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/20/2013 05:49:14Copy HTML Dear Craig, Thank you so much. I am sorry for your loss and also the other illness in your family. I thank you for putting things in perspective too. How soon we forget the true meaning of Christmas, and yes there was indeed pain and suffering during the time of Jesus' Birth. They had hardships along the way, and then Jesus had to be born in a stable with animals, and I don't mean to sound gross, but It probably didn't smell very well either, then they had to get Jesus our of there because of Caesar wanting Jesus killed so there would only be one king and we forget about things like this. Not intentionally, but just because of the current situation in the world and in our own lives. But if we sit back and really think about it, there really is the good with the bad. Not only then, but now. Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/25/2013 04:40:53Copy HTML Some observations about the 2013 broadcast of the Yule Log on WXMI (Fox 17), Grand Rapids, MI: I recorded from Dish Network, according to their program guide, two separate hour-long segments, at 5:00 and 6:00 am. The 5:00 hour opened with Adeste Fideles, track #70 in the songs list, and proceeded through to end, approximately, with Hark the Herald Angels Sing, track #93. The second hour, at 6:00 am, repeated the same sequence, 70 to 93. I was personally disappointed not to have an opening with Percy Faith's Joy to the World, as we've become quite accustomed to hearing that at the opening, and missed the "more familiar" tracks at the beginning of the recording. But, conversely, these were some of the less familiar, and diverse tracks, so it's always good to get some variety. Either way, not having the same songs repeated in two consecutive hours would have been nice, but stations just do what they do with their content. In prior years, WXMI had overlaid a small Christmas ornament bulb in the (lower left?) corner, and animated over that a variety of 'local' sponsors for the program. Some years I think this was a constant overlay, but it seems in more recent years, it would come in occasionally, then be removed. This year, there was no sponsorship overlay, just an identification bug in the lower right corner. I'm not a video expert, but the broadcast appeared to be full HD, no black bars, full video to the screen edges. On a side note, just for curiosity, I've also sampled around some of the other, "imposter", yule log programming, and let's face it, nothing can hold a candle to the original. Once again, thanks to Chip for his tireless efforts keeping this classic alive and well! It is a cherished part of our Christmas day traditions.

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/26/2013 01:25:27Copy HTML I DVR's WPIS, KWGN and Antenna TV, and I have Dish Network and KWGN had a 1 hour broadcast at 7AM Eastern, and then a 3 hour broadcast from 8AM to 11AM, but they basically kept repeating a certain segment, and even had station bumper.
Our local Antenna TV affiliate had three 3 minute commercial breaks and during the last song of the 4th. hour, the started a commercial right after the last song started and when the commercials were done, they were already into an episode of Father Knows Best. I have already exlapined to Chip in detail about KWGN's broadcast. Antenna TV I don't believe was the problem but the TV Station who is an affiliate, as it was local commercials. Fortunately, I have the WPIX broadcast that I am watching now, and I have the previous years too already burned to a DVD. So far WPIX is playing flawlessly. I did see a coupe knock-off Yule Logs, and one was even from a local station, and it was horrible, probably a hologram fire. I feel bad for people who watched it on KWGN in Denver, because they definitelly had something wrong. I even manually set my timer so it would record the entire 4 hours witjhout interruption, and I always start 2 minutes early and end 3 minutes late just in case the Dish Network DVR's time isn't the same time as the TV Stations are. Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/26/2013 09:00:17Copy HTML For this year's national broadcast on Antenna TV, I had Tribune engineer George Pappas fix the aspect ratio problem that happened with last year's broadcast. Last year the program was incorrectly broadcast in the 16:9 aspect ratio; and this year it was corrected to the proper 4:3 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, however, we have no control over what some of the local Antenna TV affiliates do with regard to commercial interruptions. All I can say is that those of us who live in the New York City area are very fortunate to receive the WPIX Yule Log broadcast, as well as WPIX's Antenna TV affiliate Yule Log broadcast, where both presentations are shown without any commercial interruptions whatsoever. Some of the Antenna TV affiliates across the country show a callous disrespect for the integrity of the program by inserting, as Ralphie in A Christmas Story would say, "a crummy commercial." In addition, some of the local Tribune affiliates are not any better that some of the local Antenna TV affiliates. And Tribune affiliate KWGN in Denver wins the grand prize on this accord. Part of my post-broadcast duties will be to call program director Garrett Sailer to see what the hell happened. WXMI in Grand Rapids is also on my list. Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/26/2013 02:57:07Copy HTML Merry Christmas to all! Here is my observation. I watched the 2013 Yule Log on WCCT out of Hartford here in CT. There were no commercials, just an occasional station ID in the corners of the screen on rare occasion, perhaps for FCC rules/regs. What I did notice was there was no fourth hour of music, just repeats of the first hour once it went past the third hour. I had the playlist open on my computer, and I followed along very carefully as each song played. That is my only observation, and I enjoyed it very much - thankful just to see the log again! It had been a few years, I only had some old VHS tapes, so it brought me great joy to see it this year. I did also watch the live stream on the PIX website on Christmas Eve, and that was very nice, but due to my internet connection speed, I had troubles with the stream buffering an awful lot. Still...I enjoyed it very much. Keep up the good work and thank you for all for keeping the tradition alive. It is wonderful! |

Re:2013 Yule Log Broadcast Schedule Date Posted:12/26/2013 03:18:19Copy HTML I got to watch a little part of the WPIX internet broadcast on Christmas Eve. It was great! I downloaded a program capture) and was going to record it on Christmas Day but because of all our activities, I was unable to! I'm ready for next year!
Direct TV in Buffalo has two yule log "knock offs" as Chip likes to say! One from a local channel had some good music but lots of "funky" stuff. Most annoying was 3 BIG presents super-imposed on the screen with the sponsor on it. The other was UP which was formerly Gospel Music Channel! Some interuptions and the music was nice! Christmas music mixed with Christmas worship music. Neither could compare to the WPIX Yule Log. Fortunately, I have a DVD and a couple of VHS tapes (remember them!) of the WPIX Yule Log. |
