Chip,

I was listening to Music Choice "All Christmas" via my smartphone in my car last week and they played a Christmas song by Bobby Darin. I really don't remember hearing much from Bobby Darin that was Christmas music, and I googled him and found that he released a Christmas Album "The 25th Day of December" on ATCO Records in 1960  33-125.

I don't remember radio stations playing his Christmas music when I was growing up, but that doesn't mean they didn't.

I was trying to seacrh for him in the message board to see if this album is i your top 500 or not, but can't search.  So I started going through each tier, but didn't see it, and was just curious to try and find out if his Christmas album was that popular or not?

Susan,

Bobby Darin's Christmas album resides in the "Bubbling Under" section of my Top 500, coming in at #430. The album did pretty well for Bobby; however, it never charted.

Thanks Chip,

I had been thinkimng that it never charted and that is why I probably don't remember hearing much from him for Christmas on the radio growing up.  I am a bit surprised though because his other songs were pretty popular, even to this day,and some were covered by other artists  Splish Splash, Dream Lover, Beyond The Sea, If I were a Carpenter.  18 Yellow Roses, Things.   just to name a few.

EDITED to clarify something I stated above.  I meant to say that the songs I listed were popular by Bobby Darin, not meaning to imply that all those songs were covered by other artists.

Interestingly enough....I don't ever recall hearing about Bobby Darin's Christmas album or even that he recorded any Christmas songs until recently. I was in one of my local Walgreens before the holidays and saw a budget compilation cd called 'Crooner's Christmas'. I bought it. His song, 'Christmas Lang Syne' is the song that ends the album. It is wonderful!!! I may have to investigate the entire album!

Gene,

That song, "Christmas Auld Lang Syne," was a non-LP Christmas single that Bobby released the same year as his Christmas album, The 25th Day Of December. Side B of that 45-rpm single was one of his great spiritual songs from the album, "Child of God." Both of these songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: #51 for the former, and #95 for the latter. By the way, "Christmas Auld Lang Syne" was included as a bonus track on the 2013 Real Gone Music reissue of Bobby's Christmas album.
