Grinchy,

Thanks for trying to help, but a big caveat emptor to anyone who is considering purchasing this Ray Conniff import reissue CD from the U.K. It is made by the notorious Hallmark Record Company, and their reputation for quality is pathetic. To anyone who doesn't already have this classic 1959 Ray Conniff recording in their collection, I suggest that you buy the domestic Sony Music reissue CD release which also includes the original album cover artwork. Click here to purchase this CD.

As for the Fred Waring CD you alluded to, this is not a new release and has been out for quite some time. It is a reissue of Mr. Waring's first Capitol Records Christmas LP from 1957. The Capitol Christmas recordings were not near as good as his earlier Decca Christmas recordings. My recommendation to folks is to buy the original Decca LPs and burn them to a CD-R. If anyone would like more information on Fred Waring and his Decca Christmas recordings, Click here.

Chip--thanks for the clarifications.  Just saw them as new releases on CD universe and thought I would toss them out there.  CDU also has the domestic Sony Coniff CD as well.  Glad you lat me know as i was considering the Import.

Re-releases of Ray Conniff's "Christmas With Conniff" album have been popping up on CD all over Europe this year since the original recording has passed the 50 year copyright law period.

Hallmark Music & Entertainment/Pickwick has released a CD in The Netherlands -- IMC Music Ltd. has released what they are saying is a "digitally remastered" version titled "Songs For Christmas" in Europe -- and Disky has released a version in The Netherlands as well.

The Disky version sounds the best -- great sound ! I'll have to compare it to the US release as far as sound goes. The IMC version sounds good but isn't mastered as "loud" as the Disky version - and its not as "crisp" as the Disky version. Avoid the Hallmark/Pickwick CD -- it's taken from a mono LP - snaps and crackles can be heard as the songs trail off...abyssmal sound. Not worth it in the least.

Lastly, I came across a Russian release of "Christmas With Conniff/We Wish You A Merry Christmas" on a single CD. I'm pretty sure its been out for some time and is a pirate/bootleg. Excellent sound quality though !!
