My wife and I are tearing our hair out over this. The ONLY place either of us can think of that even carries such a thing these days are the three retail giants, Walmart, K-Mart, and Target. Quality on what is essentially a costume item is hard to come by, and we've ordered a couple different ones from the internet, but have been disappointed in all of them.

The one I used to have I bought before Y2K, and it was absolutely amazing. Pretty sure I bought it from Toys R Us of all places, and it wasn't just a big of party clothing. It was quite functional. It didn't have any of that itchy nylon material on the inside, the fur looked gorgeous even after years of use (compared to the ones we're finding now that look like drowned cats right out of the box), and it actually kept my head warm. I'm pretty sure it was also made of velour (crushed velvet) which is far more luxurious than the cheap plush stuff I'm seeing everywhere. All in all, it looked like something the Big Man would actually wear.  Everything I can find now looks like it's made for children, even if it's sized for adults.   Sign of the times, I guess.

Guess I'm hoping maybe someone else here knows of a reputable source for really good santa hats.

Gee...if you can find someone who sews, perhaps if you splurge on the material, they could fashion a pattern and make one for you.  All else fails, find a genuine costume shop.  If you can provide a picture of what you are looking for it will make it much easier for the person to sew it for you. Try online craft stores like Jo-Ann Fabrics.  Perhaps e-bay or etsy will have a crafts person selling Santa Hats.

Good Luck!

Fortunoff's used to sell these beautifully made (and expensive) Santa hats from Germany years ago. It was the same company who made the Santa costumes used by the Santa in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I wish I could remember the name. I've seen them sold somewhere else but can't remember where.....I think it was a shop somewhere in Peddler's Village or New Hope (Bucks County, PA).

Yeah, Holly, it had crossed my mind that I might have to get them tailor-made. It's amazing how often I end up not being able to find what I want in stores and having to make it myself these days. And I'm not even talking about clothing. Common things you'd never think would be so hard to come by, one that works the way I want it to, won't break in 5 minutes, etc.

Anthony, is it Pine Wreath & Candle at Peddler's Village?
