This year, for Christmas 2011, TCM has an exceptional schedule of holiday programming lined up. There are two particular highlights this yearthe premiere on TCM of the classic and legendary 1951 version of A Christmas Carol and the premiere of the fourth installment of TCM's 'Night at the Movies' documentary series, with this one focusing on Christmas movies entitled TCM Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas! It should be a great special and it will premiere on Tuesday, December 6th at 8:00pm (EST), with encore showings that night at 11pm and 5:30am. The special will also encore again on December 18th at 12pm and December 20th at 10pm. And the biggest single highlight of the month, the TCM premiere of the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol starring the great Alastair Sim, will air on Monday, December 12th at 8pm (a prime time showing!).

Other highlights for the month include the airings of great Christmas classics such as Miracle on 34th Street, The Bishop's Wife, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Shop Around the Corner, Going My Way, The Lemon Drop Kid (another TCM premiere), Holiday Affair, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Christmas in Connecticut and the modern classic A Christmas Story. So get ready for a spectacular month on TCM! Re:TCM's 2011 Christmas Schedule

Nice-looking lineup, although Margie seems like a rather odd choice for Christmas Eve itself. I'd much rather that they'd air the Sim Christmas Carol in that time slot.

Yes, I totally agree. Unfortunately, it seems that TCM only purchased the broadcast rights to one showing of the picture and they decided to air it on one of the four nights in December where they are celebrating the upcoming bicentennial of Charles Dickens' birth. That's fine, but they should have purchased the broadcast rights to two airings so they could have shown it on Christmas Eve where it belongs.

If they couldn't re-air the Sim version on the 24th, they still could have secured the rights to show the Reginald Owen version, or even the musical version with Albert Finney. No, neither of those is as good as the Sim, but at least we'd get *some* version of the most famous Christmas Eve story on Christmas Eve itself.

Margie is a wonderful film, but that's simply not the proper night to be airing it. IMO, of course.

I agree, nice schedule, but I would have rather had "The Bells of St. Mary's" follow "Going My Way".

Re:TCM's 2011 Christmas Schedule

Just an important reminder that tomorrow at 8:00pm is the premiere on TCM of the great 1951 version of A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim. Be there or be square!

**Edited 12/05/11 to add the following correction:

The TCM premiere of the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol will air on December 12th, not today December 5th! Sorry, but I was a week premature! Tonight at 9:45pm TCM will air the 1938 version with Reginald Owen.
