Date Posted:11/23/2016 10:41:33Copy HTML White Christmas, aka Merry Christmas by Bing Crosby-The Re-Issue's title was the same as the Former Record Setting Best Selling single of all time, but before it was re-titled by MCA,in 1999,it was "Merry Christmas" and in 1960,was Re-Channeled for Stereo, meaning it had Echo Reverb added to it,making it sound more like it was recorded in a Spacious Hallway.rather than a Deadned Studio! The 1988 CD issue restored it back to Glorious Mono again. (Sorry,Chip,Ive just now corrected it!)

Re:Bing Crosby's Merry Christmas, aka White Christmas History Date Posted:11/23/2016 11:25:59Copy HTML Michael, The album was not re-channeled for stereo in 1961, but rather 1960. If you recall, I documented the complete release history of Bing's Merry Christmas album back in December of 2011 in response to incorrect information that you had posted on the board (click here and scroll down to my post dated 12/11/11). For those who haven't seen it, I will post it again below. The complete release history of Bing's Merry Christmas album on vinyl: *1945: Released as a 5-record 78-rpm set with blue cover and picture of Bing with a total of 10 songs. (Decca catalog #A-403). *1946: Re-released as a 4-record 78-rpm set with same cover but only 8 songs. The 2 songs deleted from this abridged reissue were Danny Boy and Let's Start The New Year Right (Decca catalog #A-550). *1947: Reissue of above abridged 78-rpm set but with red cover and picture of Bing (Decca catalog #A-550). *1949: Re-released as a 10" LP with blue cover and picture of Bing with a total of 8 songs (Decca catalog #DL-5019). *1955: Re-released as a 12" LP with 12 songs on the all-black Decca label. This was the first release to sport the now-famous and iconic classic cover with Bing wearing with the Santa hat and holly-berry bow tie (Decca catalog #DL-8128). *1960: Reissue of above 12" LP on the black label with color bars (same catalog # as above); and release of an electronically enhanced re-channeled Stereo version (Decca catalog #DL-78128). *1973: Reissue of above 12" LP by MCA Records on the black label with rainbow (MCA catalog #167). *1979: Reissue of above 12" LP by MCA Records on the blue label with rainbow (MCA catalog #15024).
**The original 1945 and 1946 78-rpm releases had Bing's picture with a blue background (as did the later 1949 10" LP release). Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri
