In the spotlight now is yet another one of the classic Christmas LPs that I have been working on for years to get released on CD. It's the great Frank Chacksfield's classic 1959 Richmond Records LP, Music For A Merry Christmas.

This album has presented quite a challenge to get back into print, as it is the property in UMG (Universal Music Group) – a company that is nearly impossible to deal with when it comes to securing printing rights for reissues of recordings in their catalog.

In my
Top 500 of the greatest Christmas albums of all-time, this album resides in the 1st Tier; coming in at #31.

Frank Chacksfield, whose recording career spanned 40 years from 1951-1991, was one of the most prolific easy-listening recording artists ever.

He formed his first musical group, Frank Chacksfield's Tunesmiths, in 1951. Then, two years later, in 1953, he organized his first full-sized orchestra, with its initial billing as Frank Chacksfield and His Singing Strings. Shortly thereafter, the billing was changed to the laconic Frank Chacksfield and His Orchestra.

The song from the album that is featured in this In The Spotlight tribute is the charming, delightful and whimsical, "Alpine Sleigh Ride."

Enjoy!

Hi Chip,

Was there more than one Frank Chacksfield Christmas album?  Do you think it's possible to release a complete collection of Vic Damone's Christmas music on a future release?

Thanks,

Jim

I really enjoyed this. I had not heard it before. The stereo sound quality is excellent, even coming out of the speakers on my laptop. It is full and rich.

Mr. Chacksfield had just the one full-length Christmas album, Jim. As for Vic Damone, a compilation CD is a nice idea, but I have too many priorities ahead of it for me to push for something like that right now.

Thanks Chip for the information!  And thank you for working with Real Gone Music to get those wonderful Christmas albums to CD that have been out of print for many years!

Love this album! Any shot that Real Gone can pull off a reissue of this album in 2015 despite the difficulties with UMG?  I note that you say "nearly impossible", so I'm hoping there is a chance!

Justin,

There's always hope a deal could be worked out.
