Chip,
I know there was an Acapella version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and I believe it was during the 1960's but wasn't by The Tokens.  I've been racking my brain to try and find out who sings it.

I am sure there wasn't any music at all, from what I remember, but when I search for the song using Acapella, it brings up Straight No Chaser is the first thing that comes up.

The only other version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" that I know of was Robert John's 1971 release. It was one of my favorite records of that year and I still have my original 45 that I bought in '71.

Thank you Chip,
Maybe my mind isn't what it used to be lol.  I have the Robert John one myself, but I it wasn't Acapella.  I know it has been covered by other groups, but I remember the song with just vocals and no instruments.

Oh well, I guess I will continue looking.

Susan,

If there was an a cappella version of the song in the '60s or '70s, I am not aware of it.

I doubt this is it, but this a cappella version came many years later in 1992: click here.

I don't believe there was any instruments in the song I remember, if so, maybe just a drum.  It was pre-1970 to the best of my knowledge.
