Date Posted：01/02/2015 03:42:56Copy HTML This almost feels like sacrilege to even say, but I can't help it anymore. I've lost interest in the Macy's Parade. Not to say that there aren't tidbits of nostalgia still tucked in here and there, but the level of commercialism has reached the point of being almost unwatchable. Granted, there has always been advertising in it, but they don't even make an attempt to hide it anymore. And the music 90% of the time isn't worth my time either.
Then comes the Rose Bowl. Wait, what's this? An actual parade? Nobody going crazy trying to spam ads in our faces? No stunted creativity? But still high budget? Goodness! Is there a Christmas parade like this? And obviously I don't mean that it has to be themed with flowers. Just something with that spirit. |

I don't know the date it was on for 2015, but being I live close to the Canadian border, Time Warner Cable gives our area The CBC, The CTV Networks, and I believe it is The CBC Network that broadcast the parade. I haven't seen it in years, but used to watch it over the air back in the 1980's and it was, imo, much better than Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is today. I did Google the parade, and it will be on in November around the 15th. So, hopefully, anyone who lives near the Canadian border might be able to watch it. http://www.carnifest.com/events/canada/toronto/1369/toronto-santa-claus-parade-2015.aspx I do miss the old Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades though because there wasn't so much banter between the hosts, and you actually got to see more of the parade than you do now. I actually saw the parade and The Rockettes, but was only about a year and a half old, so obviously I don't remember anything. Sadly, any pictures my mother took are missing. Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.

A quick shot of the parade and then it is someone signing something! What makes me the maddest is the performances that aren't even in the parade but in some studio. When you account for the commercials and all the performances the actual broadcast of the parade must be a half hour or so. It has become a terrible parade to watch.
The Rose Bowl parade has problems but not nearly as bad. I watch that parade on the Hallmark Channel which is nice to watch! There are station breaks but that is all! |

Date Posted：01/17/2015 01:20:49Copy HTML Back in the day when the parade didn't have all the other Studio Singing and commercials, you pretty much got to see most of the actual parade ad if you were there, but now, it is like Ray said. The other thing about the singing, if it isn' taped elsewhere, but is on one of the floats in The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, they are lip-syncing to the songs. I remember one year when Andy Williams was in the parade, and it was before "The Digital Transition" I believe, but could be wrong, and he was singing one of his Christmas songs, but wasn't even in sync with the music. I could also be wrong, but I believe it was from one of his first 2 Christmas Albums. I understand that it is hard for people to hear the music in a headset while on a float because of the noise of the crowd, but still, it would be nice to actually hear the artist performing live. Even at so called "Live Concerts" there is a lot of lip-syncing. After all, the hosts of the parade can talk to the artist and they respond live, why can't they sing live too? It just isn't right, you pay a lot for a ticket to the concert to hear a CD playing instead of the artist singing live? Christmas Isn't Just A Day In December, It's A Way Of Life.
